Do you know how he died? Its kind of a funny story, depending on which version you hear.

Usually people say it was lead poisoning or alcohol poisoning. They think alcohol poisoning because there was an up coming election, and they think a politician kept giving him beers to vote for him, until he dropped dead in the street on the way to the polls. Hil - freaking - arious!

I haven't read anything by him, but I've been reading Lovecraft lately, which is awesome, and Poe was one of his main influences.

Poe was a great writer.
I've read a ton of his stuff including the Telltale Heart, the Raven, Ligia, City By the Sea (or wtv it was called), and some of his short stories like Fall of the House of Usher.

Yeah, he drank a lot, and he was depressed, especially after his wife died, but he had a really shitty childhood, if you ever read his history.
His parents died or something like that and his adoptive father was really Bipolar.
Edgar moved around a lot and other stuff.

However, if you hear that E.A.Poe was a drug addict, you can rest easy in the knowledge that he was not.

After Poe died, his publisher started that rumor to stop people from buing his books due to a personal vendetta. (or something like that)

My English teacher told our class he was a coke fiend.

Either way I don't care, but I thought it was sort of silly.. but I don't know if it's valid or not I haven't looked it up properly

This guy kinda scares me, though. First off, the poems he writes. Straight up scary. Second, he married his cousin. Third, I heard from my ILA teacher told me that it was heard that he was a heroin addict. Let's see, a heroin-using, cousin-marrying, dark poem writing man. You do the math. This guy probably had some problems.

who cares what kinds of problems someone has, you should have a large amount of respect for someone writing incredible literature, it doesn't make any difference to me if the person was a baby-eating rapist

I'm just saying, I think he had problems.
But that dope and that liquor must've been a poetry boost to him.

My English teacher told our class he was a coke fiend.

But that dope and that liquor must've been a poetry boost to him.
First of all, he supposedly did Opium. That's a different beast altogether.
Secondly, He didn't do drugs.

It's been disproven by historians for quite some time now.
Ignoramuses seem to like to propigate falsities like this.

Now, as for the "Fuk'd hiz cuzin", remember that he was an adopted child.
This cousin was of his adoptive family.
So it wasn't nearly what it seems.
