This topic deserves its place here, because as I see people cant give proper C&C anymore :| Im really sad because I "grew up" here and I dont want this place to die, yes, its really getting worse and worse :(
So, thats why I've decided to make a thread like this.
This is mini tutorial how to comment an animation, how to support the animator and how to actually comment things.I will also try and explain a few other things.Let's go:

First of all, dont judge the people according to their language skills.
Dont be rude if its not necessary.
Dont be "funny" if its not necessary.
Try to think about what you're talking about.
How to compose the message:
- tell the author if you liked it or if you didnt like it and why.
- tell the author what he should work on
- tell the author what would you change and what parts you liked/disliked
- dont forget to point out how was the bg, sounds, music, easing, anticipation, spacing, timing, fluidness, resizing, if it was stiff or wobbly.(You dont have to mention all of these, just take your time and think of the animation.)
Example:

**** you asshole, people dont walk like that, + there was massive amount of resizing.

and here's the better/helpful version

Well to be honest I dont think anybody walks like this, you should take your time and go outside, watch people walking.Aand your stickman was resizing, try to draw to lines, one's for the floor (where the legs stand) and the second is for the head (its the highest point of your stickman) *picture with two lines and a stickman*

See ? Thats much more helpful.
And now I will try to explain that expressions above.
Easing, http://www.truploader.com/uploads/600506easing1.jpg
This picture explains pretty much what easing is, its like a car thats starting to ride away, at the very beginning its stopped, it doesnt move, then you gear up and you can go faster and faster, then, when you want to stop, you have to gear down and go slower and slower, then stop.

Anticipation, preparing for the action, Mesmay told me once "It's like energy !" and hell he was right.More energy you have > More powerful punch.More anticipation you do > more powerful looking punch.
How to do the anticipation http://www.truploader.com/view/618149
Basically its some kind of a wave that goes through your body when you want to do some action. For example the punch, the first part thats moving (as you can see on the anim above) is the head, then body, elbow, and finally the wrist. You can also see the easing http://www.truploader.com/uploads/087645anticip1.jpg

Fluidness also connected with pose to pose animation. If I am correct its just about how much inbetweens you leave between two "key" positions, example coming over here:
So we have two key positions
The first one is on frame 1 and the second is on the frame 10.
http://www.truploader.com/uploads/474996fluidness1.jpg
There are a lot of ways how to "inbetween" these two keys, for example like this (http://www.truploader.com/view/532020) or more fluid and more likeable version (http://www.truploader.com/view/324024) (Im sorry, I was just not thinking when I made it only 10 frame animation, thats why the FPS is now at 10, ups :D)
Now I could just play with the easing and make this short animation even more good.Just keep things simple, you dont have to add any special drawings, use double framing ! But dont over use it, I hate to watch "laggy" animations =)

Moving on to Spacing Basically its just the way you put the body parts, for example when someones jumping his spacing should be like this (I will keep things simple and I will draw just a bouncing ball) http://www.truploader.com/uploads/465198spacing.jpg
(green curve connects all the passing through positions of the ball)

Timing is HOW much TIME does the ball need to do some action (OH MY GOD I FEEL LIKE HAVING DE JAVU =D) Timing is how much time you need to punch someone, how much time you need to prepare for the punch, how much time you need to hit the face, etc etc.

Resizing I think you're smart enough to point it out yourself =)

Stiff animation is when the stickman stays in the same position (mostly straight back position) for too long.

Smooth animation is animation where you can see every action of the stickman and you dont think he's teleporting =) I dont have any better definition of smooth animations, uups, I do, SSJBryando :)

Wobbly/shaky stickmen, again, you're clever enough to know what Im talking about, not a big deal.

And, the biggest problem of almost all animators is what I call "ANIMATION FLOW" Well, mostly its just spacing and timing, but time to time I use that as separate expression because I just feel like it.Its how all the body parts of the stickman move, how are they, or how are they not fluid/smooth.Animations with bad animation flow are jerky/wobbly/shaky, the best way how to fix it is to keep your eye on the movement of the head, if its pretty nice, smooth curvature you're okay and you dont really have to care about it, but if it looks like this, for a running
http://www.truploader.com/uploads/911290curve1.jpg

instead of getting this
http://www.truploader.com/uploads/285584curve2.jpg

I made this in like 30 minutes, I hope you agree with me and you like this mini tutorial =)
If you have any question, feel free to ask me here, dont be afraid to post links with your animations. If I have time, I will try to help you.

I'm probably not going to change though =/ Even though I try not to be a **** face all of the time >_>

I rate on what's involved in the animation, and what isn't. If the movements are awesome and everything looks cool, I'm probably going to say that it sucks because there is no detail or no background. If the animation has great movements, good effects, interesting movements, a nice background, and a good amount of detail to it, I will most likely still say that it sucks. A good example to something that I find good is some of Adam Philips animations on NG. Those are the only thing's I've ever given a 5 to =/

Thisis a good idea I guess, but it won't change much unless the person is willing to actually give a detailed review of what they thought about the animation and how it should be improved. That's not me though.

You'd say it sucks even if an animation has great movements, good effects, interesting movements, a nice background, and a good amount of detail to it?

What a stuck-up faggot. I can't find a nicer word. If that's so, then don't even bother commenting. Constructive criticism involves stressing the good parts of the animation too.

well done, this will come in handy to the newer or less experianced members. this is a must read.

=) That's it, when criticizing you should be objective, you shouldnt really say anything personal or so, imo you should just go on and type down how were the animation basics, but when commenting you can say, I liked, I disliked, that's why its C&C, Comments and Criticism.

And yes, you dont have to be satisfied with the animation, but once you're nice to people and you motivate them, they'll always try to help you when you need help =)

Oh and btw, I explained everything the way I think it works, but if you want to read something more about it,
http://www.amazon.com/Animators-Survival-Kit-Richard-Williams/dp/0571202284 or google.com or wikipedia ;)

Oh and btw, I just came up with something, idk if someone elses uses it, but its so awesome, Im gonna do another tutorial about it and post it here, in the first post :D

I'd be the first to agree here as well. I'm basically trying to say that my standards are probably way higher than anyone else, and that nothing impresses me anymore. I wouldn't try to flame the person and say that they suck. I normally try to say nice things in posts. I've even helped new members out through pm's before =/ Just because I say omething sucks doesn't mean I'm going to be a complete asshole about it, I normally try to help. It's just harder to help now because I normally pm examples and images like tawnik posted to the people that I'm helping. =/ I'm not a heartless demon, lol.

I ****ing hate when you do that. You're basically saying, "I agree that its bad to be a stuck up faggot, and I realize I am one, but for some reason I can't look at my post and make sure I wasn't being a jerk. Hurrr"

EDIT: Talking about your other post in the thread.

Omg, Stop that, if you want to flame people just because they're honest, go to main.

The next part of this "tutorial" is not coming soon, I have some other work to do, + outside is gonna be 30 degrees !!! Thats a lot =)

Flood

30 degrees celsius?

I'm not flaming him at all, I'm just saying I'm annoyed with him.

Tawnik

Yeah 30 degrees celsius, today it was 32 and the weather seems to be really great this week =)

I think you're one of the people that hates me because of my racism posts a while back, Flood. Idk, don't care.

I speak my mind, so what? I know this, therefore I like to go out of my way to help people and try to show them that I'm not hard to get along with.

If you want me to help and make examples for your tutorial, just let me know. I have some free time.

You speak your mind about hating somebody for the color of their skin.

Arch-Angel
07-15-2009, 06:48 AM
I don't see why I should explain myself to people on the internet, especially when the color of someones skin doesn't matter on the internet. I don't have anything against anyone on this site that are of a different race =/ I don't see why anyone should care especially on the internet. It has a lot more to do with the color of someone's skin. I would prefer to know someone before I would judge that person.

You can use this if you want to, Tawnik:

Edit: D= Image quality blows =/ I can redo it and post a swf if you want me to.

At least that's what I think he's saying.
