November is National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org/)!

Have you ever thought, "One day, I'd like to write a novel?" Well, you're probably going to keep procrastinating until you die and never finish anything, unless you have a deadline. That deadline is November 31st, 23:59 (11:59 PM) local time. Your novel must be fifty thousand words long. However, you cannot start until November 1st. If you're doing it, (which you most certainly will decide to do after reading this thread and the official website) post a short summary of your plot. In mine, a malevolent sentient AI tries to take over the world, and a few scientists try to escape to space.

That's impossible! No human can a whole book in a month.
You only need to write a bare minimum of 1667 words per day, and you can even slack off for 10 of the days and only write 1666 words.

But it'll be terrible! You can't write a book in a month and expect it to be good.
The point isn't to write a masterpiece worthy of publishing, or even showing to another person. The point is to get it done so that you can edit it, and then it will be lovely. During NaNoWriMo, you NEVER edit a single word. Pry the delete and backspace keys off of your keyboard if you must. Your goal is making it to 50,000 words, not not making someone who happens to see your manuscript vomit. Editing is for December, just get it written. You can't edit a blank page.

But I have so much stuff to do! I have a job, school, community service, keeping my kids from killing themselves or each other, et cetera! I could never find the time to do this!
Yes you can. With all the time you'll save by cutting out nonessential activities (eating full meals, cooking, cleaning, watching TV, playing games, etc.) you'll find that you have several free hours in the day that were otherwise taken. If you don't have these hours, you must be very good with your time management, and therefore can handle the time needed.

But what do I get for all this hard work!?
There's a grand prize of $1,000,000. Just kidding, there's no million dollar prize, but you do, however, get a printable certificate and... what's this? THE FULL FIRST DRAFT OF A NOVEL, WRITTEN BY YOU AND THE SATISFACTION OF HAVING ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING IN YOUR MISERABLE LIFE!HOLY SHIT, YOU'RE AN AUTHOR NOW! You also get a free copy of your book printed by CreateSpace. (https://www.createspace.com/nanowrimo) You can use to free copy as firewood or editing, your choice.

But there's less than a month until November! How am I supposed to plan a whole book in a few weeks?
The trick is, you don't. You only need a week to plan, any more and you risk getting a brilliant idea that stops you from writing because you don't want to "ruin it." No plot? No problem! Just start writing, and keep writing, and you'll be on your way to 50,000 words.

I am sorely tempted. I will admit I had been considering writing a novel, but I fear my time management skills have been perfect and there is not a thing I can cut out or shuffle around.

Except SPP.

Oh, what the hell. I'm up for it.

So after thinking about this for a record breaking 3 minutes and going through all of the novel ideas I've had in my life I settled on the cheesiest, lamest, and most awesome one that I could never screw up.

It's going to be called Zombie-Man

And it will be awesome.

I promise to read anyone's novel who reads mine.

Also, goddamnit, why'd you have to post this so far before the start date? I want to start nooooooow

Might be my shot.

Kind of a cool contest. I'm not going to do it, but it's interesting.

Have fun.

Sounds interesting, but due to my procastination problems, there's no way I can manage to get around to writing something, even, in a month.

The word you wanted was "through". A trough is something that farm animals eat out of :)

Time for me to put my little bit in. Hooray for suckiness

My name is Louis Paxton. And I am having the most fun I've ever had in my life.
I screamed in exhileration as I spun around another corner, doing 120 miles per hour. Scraping the sides of the opponent cars all around me. I was in the middle of the group.
Thinking fast, I jammed the steering wheel left, pressing another car and all the others around it straight into the wall. The door to the car on the far left hit the stone barriers hard, and it's armor all sheared away. Leaving a gaping hole inside the door itself. The rest of the cars slammed into eachother, fishtailing and swerving out of control. The result was like throwing a rock into a school of fish.
"Don't get too crazy, will ya?!" Dexter Zehnner, my gunner, yelled next to me. "Some of us don't have a death wish!"
"Just warming up for when the guns activate!" I yelled back over the roar of the motors.

Trust me, after an hour or so you'll stop. I've had so many weekends in which i said to myself "All weekend, 10k words at least etc" and I end up with like 500 done on Sunday night.

But hey, if you can manage that then you have the type of perseverance that everyone wants.

I believe in you. I too am 7 days behind D:

Also you too miniman. You sexy beast.

Also, wrote another 2300 words today in an hour and a half. Just trying to keep you guys motivated.

Edit* In case anyone cares, I'm at 10,200 words now. 10,200 in three days is fantastic, I'm going to double it tomorrow for veterans day.

I'm only 6000 words behind now, awesome :D

Also, everybody post a paragraph of their books now. I am curious.
(I'll post one from mine if anyone cares and posts theirs.)
Edit: Just got myself MS word. No more having to write the story down on Notepad. **** yeah
Edit2: Now that I actually have the word count tool, I will be writing at least 1500 words a day, instead of writing till I don't feel like it anymore.

The sun had risen, and I with it. I had barely slept such was my excitement, but a lack of energy didn’t bother me. I would survive the day on adrenaline and ambition alone. Bull was to pick me up within the hour and we were scheduled to proceed to the casino and kick-start my rich and famous career. The possibility of not winning had crossed my mind, and I supposed that even if I didn’t I would still manage to get to the elusive third floor and see what it took to make it big, so that next time I would be ready. Although deep down the possibility of losing was not one that I felt needed entertaining; the idea was so foreign to me, I’m not sure if I even knew how to comprehend it fully.

I was simply staring at the ceiling; so much anxious energy had built up that I could not apply myself to any particular cognitive task. Even shuffling a deck of cards was beyond me at this point, but I had more than enough premonitions of my life after this day that I didn’t need any trivial pursuit to occupy me. I would win the grand prize at the Emblem, and be recognised as the youngest professional ever. My hand that was hanging off of the bed came into contact with something, and when my fingers clasped around it I realised it was the umbrella that Lilli had leant me the day before. It had worked well; my thoughts soon drifted to the girl, who would surely think better of me with such a title under my belt. Who knows, maybe all of my dreams would come true at the same time.

Shit. I had promised to return that umbrella today.thats how i did it

I started a novel a year ago, I plan on finishing it but I plan it to be about 200 pages long, that's the maximum for now. So yeah, not joining this as I already do write novels and short stories. A certificate and published on that site, cool but still. Good luck to the people participating.

Here's my novel so far if anyone wants to read, the chapters are short. I will combine the first two I think.

http://www.protagonize.com/story/sin-mark

Here's an idea. Just sit back, relax and write whatever you feel in the present, without looking at what you write. It's kind of awesome.

Actually **** it. I know I'm a bit late but I'll still do it even if I don't finish. It's good for practice and when I have nothing else to do I will have something to DO.

I sat in this dark, vast room, practically covered in the darkness itself. It engulfed me. The silence was loud, my ears kept ringing. I could only hear the slow and steady beat of my heart against my chest. I could not look, I could only stare into the darkness beyond me. I felt alone but yet at peace.

My maneauver had left a big opening in the cars. Stepping on the pedal, I rushed through it. Third place now.
"Weapons activate in 15 seconds.'' I heard over the speakers. Dexter was smiling along with me; his hands gripped tight on the joystick which aimed the heavy machine-gun we had armed on the front and back of our car.
I attempted a PIT maneauver on the second place car. I got right beside its rear bumper, and turned to the right. However, the driver had seen me and with quick thinking, evaded me and slowed down. Trailing right behind me. I could see his weapon bristled, intending to unload all his ammo into the rear of our car.
"Weapons activate in 10 seconds."
"Dexter, see that car behind us?'
"Already on it, boss. With any luck, I'm going to lodge a nice big lump of lead right into the barrel of that gun."
I scoffed. "Good luck with that. You'll probably get us killed trying."
"Hey, you said you were warmed up in your evasive maneauvers, right?" He teased back at me.
"Weapons activate in 3."
I licked my lips.
"2."
Dexter wiped his sweaty palms, and grabbed the joystick again.
"1...."
