.piv (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U28QG583)

I'm fairly proud of this one. I've applied my own cc to it and gotten it to as good as I think I can do, within this particular concept. There is one flaw that I can see but can't correct. First one to shout it out gets five points :)

I hate ranks, but I wanted to know what people thought in a measurable way, so the poll is more about the numbers. The ranks are for people who can't think in terms of anything else.

Edit: Actually, the poll question should have been "rate this animation out of 10". Same options though.

Is it.....
The shaky feet on the first two atk's?

Zed
03-07-2010, 01:49 PM
That shake is not there in the .piv. I think it's to do with the resizing. I had a foot placement dot there so I can say for certain the feet do not move. I'll upload the .piv file for if anyone wants to check this.

So no, that wasn't it. Well spotted though.

Edit: Yeah, it was the resize. I've changed the size of it now so it's not so much of a problem. It makes the particles less distinct, but I think they still work just fine.

Partices need more time in the air, you haven't put much easing into them.. And they disappeared too quickly. The filp wasn't really realistic, it was way too high. It should be the same height as the jump. Besides all that, It was quite nice.

Zed

I liked my flip :(
but thank you. I might extend the particles. Possibly with two extra shades of grey

Heck, ah'm a pivoteer, ah shouldn'ta bin throwin in mah lot with the likes o' particles. Not at mah time o' life.

I'll do it but it's gonna take a while since I didn't even use the old trick of making it all one .stk with invisible lines. 'til then, keep critting peoples.

Also, ratin it 3. High beginner definitely.

I think it is Border-Intermediate... 4/5

You rule. I never really cared much for realism, I do not do it in my animations but if I had to decide whether yours was realistic or not, I would have to choose the latter, it is good, believe me, just un-realistic. But it is still flowy and sexy.

I disagree with this method of criticizing the flip, if he wanted it to be realistic he would make it realistic, saying that you want it to be something that he deliberately doesn't is unfair and the fact that realism is still a problem irritates me beyond the breaking point.
It's eased very well.
The movements look good.
Not stiff.
Why on earth would you have a problem with that flip? It was perfectly fine, actually pretty good to be exact and zed doesn't use a realistic style, therefor I must insist that although he is capable of making his animations realistic that it shouldn't be considered a requirement. Nigh I digress that it shouldn't be a requirement for ANYONE Who doesn't wish to make their animations look realistic and further more the fact that almost no one wants to have this realism based Nazism it should be banished to the deepest pits of damnation locked into an eternal forgetfulness. If we want everyone's style to look realistic then every one is going to do those irritating parkour style animations that all look the same.
It removes the creativity and stimulation that you get from animating, you won't be able to express yourself properly because although in a virtual world you would be bound by earthly boundaries.
Does that stick figure look like it's on earth? Or does it look like it's in a void of nothingness? Why be restricting to something that has no clear restrictions? One would argue that it's so you have something to relate to while watching the animation, but my retort is that you don't need anything to relate to, it's entertainment and not supposed to be some sort of human to stick simulation.

I regress that it shouldn't be an issue and stating that it is, is completely ridiculous and just demanding what people want from other people.

There may be a flaw or two but i like the whole concept of the figures movements and the flip

Jesus christ Jutsu, I was just saying my opinion of how the flip looks to me. I don't care if he fixes it or not, I never said It's super ugly and bad.

Nazism

Godwin's Law

On-topic: Whenever I used Pivot everything seemed to be moving through water. It's actually not that slow except for in the beginning and the second attack seems to be pretty weak. Too weak for particles, in my opinion. I say it's pretty damn good, though. The flip was wonderful.

But that takes effort :(

I'll try to get back into it more -the more I practise the less effort it'll be. This particular one must've taken about six hours, although I was posting here at the same time so it wasn't solid work.

Your animation makes me having a hard ass erection.

Is that one error the shaky leg in one of the movements? Probably not. I'm not really too much of a criticizer, but it's nice seeing you animate. Speaking of animate (ing), shouldn't you be working on that sword entry or whatever?

2 points. The other 3 are if you can say which movement (because you coulda just guessed). Thanks. Yeah, I should be, but I got bored of it and needed a break. Now I'm all revitalised :)

The trails and all of the movements after he turns around on after the second trail are bad :/

that backwards step where the stick figure stepped backwards

Actually, there is a little jolt there, you're right. I was thinking about when he's in the air just before the last trailed movement.

The trails and all of the movements after he turns around on after the second trail are bad :/

That means my first punch was good :D

The entire animation was relatively good for pivot.
You just don't need a wall of text. I'd say you're around intermediate.

Zed
03-08-2010, 03:23 PM
That means a lot to me coming from you. I'm surprised though. I'd have thought the trails would've killed that down to borderz at best.

Nah. If you can add some scenery, multiple sticks moving, and about 300 frames, I'd say you're inter.

Zed

Once I'm done with the Samurai competition and my joint with Jutsu I'll make something big and special. Something with three guys moving and rope physics and blood and scenery.

Its great, i love how it looks
and i think the flip looked perfect :)

High Beg, not enough going on to be Intermediate. But the movements seem fine. They are a tad slow but otherwise good. Work on the particles a bit.

Zed.. you're gay for getting so good.

You can probably guess my score.

Nah, that's not a bump. It's only a bump if I'm inactive or making better stuff :)

Feel free to sig anything you like ghostly. I wanna hit 50 by the end of this year.

Great job, this really is your masterpiece, I like it a lot, I love the very beginning, how he gets himself to move, I just cant help myself I have to tell you that when he goes down and does the first swing (without the particles, the very first one) its the greatest anticipation Ive seen on this forum, I mean, it works, its great how then he goes up and punches.
The thing that Im not a big fan of is the hit

http://filebox.me/files/vyi67242e_hit.png

the animation for the movement itself is cool, but it doesnt make sense, if its a hit its too slow, if its a swing or something like a dance move its too fast, it doesnt make sense for me, I think that it would be cooler if you made him do the elbow hit (or whatever its called :D)

And heres something funny, stand up, stand like this

http://filebox.me/files/hagfc7vhi_makeastep.png

now do what your stick does,

...

dont you feel like moving your front leg first ? Just a lil bit ? Even if walking you have to create the momentum and you can create it with this simple thing, if you move your back leg it will cause you to go back, try it out, its fun, because if the pelvis is no more supported by the back leg it tends to fall to that direction that the leg was, its just a tiny movement, but its nice little detail that you want to it keep in your mind ;)

I like how the character decelerates and turns, thats very fluid and smooth and the next thing that I love is that he moves all the time ! I cant find two same frames, thats incredible, the fluidness is just awesome, Im a big fan of this.

When your stick jumps and hes about to smash the ground I think that something wrong happens to his legs, at least it seems like it did, they cross each other and I think that one is higher and then as he goes down it comes down and touches the ground first, if Im correct and I dont know that because I cant go frame by frame then you should be aware of this and edit that, cause it would look much smoother and much cooler if one of the legs stayed higher and the second one lower, the distance between them could shrink but I think it should cross.I know Im talking too much about details again but I have a nice little story when I though that when you run and jump you have to touch the ground with the that you have been jumping of first and then you can run again, you dont loose the momentum, when I animated it it looked alright but it wasnt working, I just knew somethings wrong and when I tried to do that I had a good time laughing at my idiocy :D its really awkward, it looks like you're retarded or something. The correct way is that the leg that you were jumping off touches the ground second and much further than the first one and that allows you to run again.
If your stick was about to run after he jumps, he would be able to, I hope this makes sense cause if it doesnt it makes me look really dumb.

The flips looks good, the guy has its weight all the way through the entire animation, I like how he eases in and out when he stops and turns, as I said, I like how he prepares for the jump I like how he jumps off the screen.

You're improving really quickly, I love to see people talented like you staying here and I hope we can stay in touch at least FOREVER ;)

This is the best cc I've had in ages :)

Yeah, the thing with the legs during the jump is what I saw but couldn't quite fix. For a while I had them going much further apart, but I found I didn't have enough frames to do it properly before he hit the floor.

You're absolutely right about moving the front foot first. I'll definitely remember that next time.

The which-foot-lands-first stuff makes perfect sense, and it's another thing I hadn't thought of before. Thank you so much.

I thank you, there are just a few good animators around here, its my pleasure to dig through the frames and watch how you do that, Ive learned a lot from your animations and I mean this.

btw, I love my sig, every time I post a message I look into her eyes, thats epic :D haha :D:D
