So I've lately been coming across a lot of people asking about free animation software or art software or stick animation software etc.
So here, here's a list of free or affordable software for you, that is not Adobe.

Animation:

Pivot:
Most of us know this one, and have started out with it. So far there have been multiple versions of it. The most stable being 2.2.7, the latest and best version 4

Stykz:
This is like an improved version of pivot. It has much more options that allow you to draw shapes easily, and it looks much cleaner. It can also export movs, and is multi-platform. It does lack however the alpha editing feature in Pivot 4.

Pencil:
I came across this while trying to step up my game from pivot to flash. It is purely frame by frame based though, so no symbols or tweens or whatnot. However it does have layer options, vector and bitmap drawing, and a fairly good set of drawing tools. Also multi-platform

TISFAT: A really great tween based stickfigure/puppet animator. It has it's own physics engine and you can make some spiffy looking effects in it. It's unstable and crashes a lot too.

TwigMax: A combo of pivot and TISFAT, also keyframe based. It has one great feature both lack though, you can bend the stick's limbs!

EasyToon: Also frame by frame based. I personally never liked it because it's outdated and lacks color, but some people manage to make great stuff with it.

Blender: This is a 3D animating software, which I have no experience in. However I thought it would be helpful to post it for anyone interested inn 3D.

Art:

GIMP:
It is considered as Photoshop's free replacement. It is both an image editing and painting software, and completely free. It eats up a lot RAM though.

ArtRage:
This one came with my Wacom Graphics tablet for free. However you can buy it for a much cheaper price than Photoshop ($49.99)
*Artrage 2 starter edition is free.

PaintTool Sai: This a great tool for digital painting. It has a lot of capabilities and is much simpler Than Photoshop. To me my favorite feature is how amazingly smooth the lines are. (5250 JPY = $52.84)

If you happen to know of any other software that fits here, I'd appreciate it if you post a link down here.

Easytoon?
There's like a section for it in the community animations place.
