Cadell Mazda isn't a wizard. His parents most certainly are; great ones at that. However, Cadell is definitely not anything of the sort, and is far from being compared to one.
Most accurately portrayed as a rebellious teenage boy with an obsession for button-up hoodies and a lack of understanding towards the importance of his studies, magical or otherwise, Cadell is a work in progress. Full of unused intellectual potential and laziness, he spends the majority, or more simply put, too much of his time fiddling around with ideas that hold no direct relevance to any current topics he might be dealing with. Despite being what could be described as a magical prodigy, he is far from being an effective genius. Simply put, his constant lack of concentration prevents him from getting anything useful done in a short period of time. Sent away from his home to learn to fend for himself as a self-sufficient mage according to his family's tradition, he has become somewhat of a loner. Despite his obvious lack of social interaction, he is a relatively good natured and isn't easily brought to anger in most situations. Admittingly, though, he can be a bit of a talker, and will sometimes ramble on and on if he stumbles on the opportunity to get invested in a conversation. On a side note, he has an annoying obsession with cheap jokes.
Standing at roughly 5'7", clean shaven, almost always dressed in an obnoxious dark grey button-up hoodie over a boring, blank white shirt, and green cargo pants, Cadell is a skinny, mostly physically fit, 17-something teenager with a tendency to not really stand out in a crowd. With light colored skin hinting at something that could be possibly called a "tan," but should probably be referred to as light sunburn, dark brown eyes, and messy short cut hair of the same color, he possesses the equivalent of a mixed Italian/German heritage that mainly influences his facial complexion. Beyond a ridiculous amount of pencils stuffed in his pockets and a dirty pair of what used to be expensive blue sunglasses, he doesn't really bother to have any other items on his person.
At least, that's how the "book" describes him with an arguable amount over-exaggeration.
* (This bit is referencing how the description at the start is from Clemence's POV, not necessarily the literal truth, but right about on point)
Bond inside a magical tome, Clemence is a eudemon in service to the Mazda house, a long-lasting and powerful line of wizards tasked with protecting those who pay homage to their services. An outwardly grouchy and irritated spirit, he often leaves a poor impression on those who first meet him. Having been a loyal servant of the Mazda's for over a century, he is a trusted friend of the family and Cadell's technical mentor. While originally a massively powerful entity capable of powerful elemental magic, his powers have severely drained overtime from an existence that has been strained over several thousand years. In fact, the tome he is bond to is the only thing preventing him from fading away. However, this spirit is by no means "weak." Tasked with teaching and protecting Cadell, the next generation of the Mazda's, he has so far been able to protect the boy from external threats, although his confidence in doing so has lowered the further they travel from their homeworld. Able to change the size and shape of his vessel at will, Clemence is usually a pocket-sized notepad resting in Cadell's side pocket. Possessing a mental connection sustained by magic, the two can communicate freely between their thoughts, much to either's displeasure. Despite this, the two are great friends, although Clemence's attitude towards it is often sarcastically negative.
