Mayor Roderique saddened at the thought when Rabbit declined that they once knew each other. "Pity indeed. I recall some folks who looked like you, some time ago too. Perhaps back when I was a proper mayor," he hefted his shoulders and straightened them as to mock his youth. "And not a substitute."

When Visage approached, the mayor of Thornfell squinted his eyes at the changeling's appearance.

"Quite a confident one," he complimented. He then listened to Visage's offer of assistance with supplies amongst other things.

"While the idea is very tempting, you'd have to stay if you were assist in the crops and hunt," the mayor said, politely refusing the latter part. "But I do appreciate the supplies. Thornfell would be grateful to you and the United."

The knight captain looked at Visage for a moment then simply looked elsewhere.

"If you were to stay and help, the purpose of you being in Grissom would be nulled," Roderique said plainly. "I wouldn't want to go against mainland's orders but since you will be giving us some additional supply, I'd like to make a request.

Listen up, adventurers. There is a castle on the way to Highmount, it is quite near Stockholm." The mayor lifts his cane and points to the painting just behind him; a beautifully painted map of Grissom. "Castle Astenborough, I believe it was called. The Sisters of the Sun1 reside there, they've always been ready to lend a hand to us whenever we had trouble. A simple thank you each month was given in the form of goodwill and food. I would like to ask you to deliver the goods as well as check up on them."

Sir Dreimon spoke out suddenly. "My escort can handle that for you, mayor."

"I was asking the adventurers," the mayor smiled at the soldier.

    FOOTNOTES
1 The Sisters of the Sun are a subgroup of the Word of Petrania, healers and evangelists mainly composed of women. Think of them as nuns.

"Mr. Mayor, sir." An arm raised high, she called attention to herself, "Aside from taking on a request your knights could handle, is there anything else we could do for you? Or any particular details to pay attention to?"

It was a surprise. It was an outburst in all but volume. She knew the party would be getting into something dangerous, and this was just a prelude. But beating around the bush seemed like an unfitting behavior for a mayor. She'd been to many cities, including the Gambler's Den and Twin Veil. But the Castle Astenborough, she'd only heard of it. It was remote, and though it worshipped a goddess she cared for, she never got a chance to pay it a visit.

If the journey there could be accomplished by soldier escorts, then what else could the mayor have in planned if not for the difficulty? Theories she had, none she explored.

"The great Visage is a philanthropist? Color me surprised." Rudolph scoffed. "I heard a lot of things about ya laddie. Some good, most bad, but no one ever called ye selfless. What angle ye playing at?" The dwarf looked from the changeling to the mayor. "Well whateva, we ain't here fer ya to flaunt yer feathers like some kind of peacock. So Mr. May'r, you wan us to do yer job for ya? I get that things have been gettin pretty nosty but yer man looks capable enough. Whats da catch?"

Mari stood unaffected by the strong gust of wind the mayor cast, which barely ruffled her cloak and moved her keffiyeh. She listened as the conversation went on, gathering some key information. But when Visage oh so generously offered his assistance, the woman couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. She had stolen in the past from the United and it was known that the owner wasn't of the generous and altruistic kind. But before she could remark to that fact, the dwarf beat her to it. So she simply decided to stay back and wait for Visage's reply.

On the other hand the mayor's story didn't fit. She had been recruited from the other side of the continent to come and assist with a very important matter, with the promise of generous payment in exchange. And that task is to visit some nuns?

"You're hiding something, Roderique." she simply and clearly stated, loud enough that everybody in the room could hear.

Visage nodded in acceptance of the mayor's terms. "You are, of course, much obliged. As soon as we leave this building consider it done. When the ships arrive with the basic supplies, request anything additional you wish and it will be brought in the next shipment."

As the man continued, Visage mentally memorized the map. He was good with directions as a Druid, and wanted to take note of whatever information the map could provide. The others broke in, and he waited patiently for their input to be heard, before providing his own.

"First, my take on this..." he waved his hand dismissively, "...'See a need, fill a need.' Secondly, of course the mayor is hiding something my dear lady. Aren't we all?"

After letting that question sink in, he spoke again. "Besides, we are here meeting him for a reason. There is a phenomenon at stake and a city in distress. One would need to be a fool to think there are not forces at play that require more unique attributes than those provided by soldiers, however valiant and well trained they may be."

Rudolph looked to Visage. "Well that's obvious, whot I wanted ta know, was what that 'special' something is. Man ain't foolish enough to be afear of some rumors and stories, he know what's out there. Or got a damn good guess." Rudolph shrugged. "But in da end, ain't like I can refuse. After all, I'm on loan from tha government. I'm obligated to do whatever smack crazy job is asked of me till pardoned."

Visage smiled. "Well, we all will learn what the special something is soon enough, I'm sure. Our host is gracious, and will likely explain. If not, well...we would find out ourselves, now wouldn't we?"

Rudolph was a droll fellow, he had to admit. This little tidbit, however, Visage decided to remember: the dwarf was a convict. For what, he knew not, though it seemed apparent the fellow wasn't the evil type. Most likely theft or brawling of some kind.

Having her question ignored, or perhaps unheard, Aurea turned her attention to the map, trying to put what she knew on the piece of paper. Highmount...and Glacium Wastes past that. Sounds about right, that is definitely the direction That's coming from. Only...Why was she here. If she woke up next to it - her eyes trailed up and down between Highmount and their current location on the map - How did she end up almost two weeks worth of march past Thornfell... She remembered waking up twice, once on the icebound plains, and then in the middle of the woods. But why...

The woman was clearly confused as she examined the map, frowning, trying to come up with a logic conclusion. She was brought back to reality relatively quickly, reason -once again- being that loud dwarf, and grandiloquent changeling, as well as some other voices.

'Secondly, of course the mayor is hiding something my dear lady. Aren't we all?' She froze for a second, but quickly realized that statement wasn't aimed at her. She took a deep breath, and let it out, even though the stuffiness was definitely not bothering her in the slightest.

"It's a matter of convenience..." Aurea suddenly spoke. "You people were outside, saw the place... They need people here, whatever the untold reason is." She gave the mayor a glance. "So if we're already heading in the direction, it'd be a waste to dispatch additional troops just for that purpose alone, and perhaps risk something, while they can be more useful elsewhere in the meantime. Question being where, and why?" The fact that 'something happened' and that the roads aren't safe anymore after the boom was obvious, and nothing to be surprised about...For Aurea at least, as not only has she witnessed some of it, she was a walking proof of that.

I should probably try and find something interesting to put in here...

Looking to Lera, the mayor rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Going to Stockholm is straightforward but from there, the castle should be visible from over the hills. It sits atop the highest of them, its hard to miss unless fog rolls in from Highmount's peaks. If that's the case, hope that the sisters lit their tower windows. They usually do anyway. That should guide you to them."

The mayor simply shrugged when he was accused of hiding something. "So says, the woman in a hood indoors, hmm? I do not intend to hide information from you. Instead it is as Visage and the dwarf say, I've seen what the woods keep as animals now. Horrid creatures of fur and claw, standing on two legs such as we do. They took my successor away, you see. Even our best men could only fend them off for so long, luckily we had a bit of silver on hand. Smelted as much as we could into weapons and that did the trick for the most part."

The knight captain snorted. "Lycanthrope? Surely you are mistaken, the moon is neither full or as powerful."

Roderique nodded. "Indeed, it is as odd as you say but here they are. I don't know about you Dreimon but I'd rather trust my goods to those who know the woods. Have you set foot of Grissom soil prior to this, captain?" There was no response for a few seconds until he shook his head.

"Very well," the mayor nodded. "Food is in demand right now and I'd rather not lose it to lycanthrope or some beast in the wilds. I'd prefer your soldiers to stay here in Thornfell to help protect the city when night falls."

When Aurea spoke, Roderique simply smiled weakly. "We've lost good men in the last defense. You're on your way to Highmount either way. A small errand is all I ask."

Visage raised an eyebrow slowly. "Lycanthropes...interesting. Could be worse, I suppose...although I wouldn't precisely call them 'animals' so to speak."

Though he had never had to fight them personally, he had heard about them before as a relatively well known time of corruption, at least among Druids. In those cases it happened when a druid had taken their transformation attempts and natural connections a bit too far, overgiving of their magic and permanently twisting themselves. Those were rare, however...these...these were clearly of a different nature if there were enough to pose that much of a threat.

He grinned and flexed his hands, loosening his shoulders. "This sounds like it will be much fun..."
