"All who are bitten by the serpents shall die...All who look for the grace of Nehushtan shall live."
Nehushtan is devoted to bringing peace and healing to a world wracked with troubles and evils. They are willing to fight against forces that bring strife and pain, either winning them over to their cause, or destroying them.
Relations to Individuals
Nehushtan is a ghost organization. They do not attempt to truly "exist" as a definable entity -- this is their strength. Aside from their leader and founder, Dr. David MacBeth aka “The Head”
, and an associate of his by the name of Altaer, Lord of the Abyss aka "The Fixer"
(see bottom of page), there is no actual structure. Nehushtan almost never operates as a single entity. They are merely a people unified by an ideal -- the ideal of Peace, Harmony, and Love.
They operate by means of what Dr. MacBeth terms his "serpents." These are people whom he has won over to the cause of Nehushtan by one means or another. Most of them share little in common except for a devotion to Nehushtan so great it suggests brainwashing (which just might be the case). They can be anywhere, have any job, any beliefs of their own. All they must do is serve to the utmost of their capacity Nehushtan’s goals. Though the Serpents do work with each other, most of them cannot actually cooperate to any degree of complexity due to the many differences within the organization. While some might consider this a weakness, this diversity is what gives Nehushtan its “camouflage” -- a low profile due to little actual activity on a large scale.
Nehushtan will always attempt to use nonviolent methods to achieve its goals. If this does not work, however, they will usually attempt to encourage other groups to fight for them. If that fails, then they will contact The Head for his opinion. Despite having a large number of adherents and immense resources, they have very few members who are actually able to combat threats. When they do perform combat, it is usually in the form of highly specialized operations with only one of their combat-ready members.
Relations to other Organizations:
Nehushtan views themselves as they bearers of the most noble of all human sentiments, and thus hold (in their eyes) a position quite near to that of God. They, therefore have terminology that reflects that.
They grade people as Compliant, Non-compliant, Disobedient, and Rebellious.
Compliant refers to those who, knowingly or unknowningly, serve their purpose. Non-compliant refers to ones that are still in line with the goals of Nehushtan, but do not perform their will exactly. Disobedient refers to anything that consistently goes against Nehushtan’s desires, but still remains a valuable connection for them. Rebellious, however, refers to anything that has given nothing but conflict to Nehushtan.
Nehushtan, again, prefers to work through more subtle methods, wooing any opposition to their side, or at least manipulating others into helping them.
They have only one enemy, that that is The System. They, as an organization, are the polar opposite of Nehushtan. Moreover, Dr. MacBeth and The System have personal conflicts as well.
Nehushtan’s influence and work
Nehushtan is certainly vast, but most of the people who work for their cause are relatively useless, as individuals. Nehushtan does have Serpents in high places, but these are rare a precious treasures. By and large, most of their Serpents are “average Joes.”
Nehushtan primarily works by information and resource management. Though the Serpents are harmless in and of themselves, having so many individuals connect gives them a massive edge when it comes to gathering information, their specialty. Within a few days, Nehushtan can have surprising amounts of information about nearly anything (so long as it is actually documented somewhere, or is first-hand knowledge accessible to a Serpent). This information is then used either as mass-media manipulation of the public, as blackmail, or as strategic information stored in one of their databases.
Dr. MacBeth, despite being The Head, maintains very little active control. Most Serpents, in fact, will never contact him, nor be contacted by him. He himself does not seek to rule, or exercise any power other than the force of his ideologies. That would contradict the goal of Nehushtan, and also be more hassle than he wishes to take on.
Nehushtan's Place in wRHG:
There are many organizations with varying degrees of influence in existence, but none of them have goals that reach the scale of World History, aside from The System (which is on the opposite side of the spectrum from Nehushtan). Nehushtan is designed to provide long-term framework for the stories of Characters, or just short-term influence. They can be molded to nearly any need of a Character, and will accept any Character into their ranks. Their manipulation also serves as a means of inciting conflict or alliances in areas/with characters that would otherwise be illogical or impossible.
Nehushtan, secondly, is designed to be a rival to The System, since no fitting organization exists.
This organization can be freely used by anyone and everyone who wishes. Major developments in plot, however, I would prefer be run by me via PM. ("Me" being Alphaeus, see my post on page 7 of this thread or follow the link to Dr. David MacBeth and Altaer, Lord of the Abyss to find my profile link).
