I don't have a name for this yet, but I do have an idea! Something about lost tombs and curses and a lot of focus on immersion. My goal is to create an animation that walks the viewers through a time lost desert tomb and jam it full of amazing visuals and wonder, among other more creepy things ;) Hot Steel was a crazy fast action-packed animation, but I'm expecting this one to be more slower paced and again, focus on the story-telling and the visuals. I'm probably going to start by drawing some landscapes and messing around with that aspect for a little bit while also story-boarding before I really start fleshing this out, so I'll probably have a lot of eye candy in the next few days to even weeks, but animation progress might be a little slow.

January 2, 2017 - Listened to a TON of music to help spark the flow of creativity, as well as gathered a TON of theme related sounds. Began working on concept art for the visuals and animation as well as tests.
January 4, 2017 - It has a name, "Genesis"! Done a lot of concept, designs, and squaring some of the minor things away early so they don't become an issue later. The intro is about 80% complete and then the real fun begins.
January 11, 2017 - Still just a lot more concept art and working on painting skills. Story-board is coming along nicely but I'm keeping it loose and not restricting myself to time constraints. Should start working on the actual figure animation by the end of the weekend.

Take a look at the stuff!

The current menu screen. Might try to do some rad things with actionscript and some other things to make it cooler.

Original concept for one of the areas. It's obsolete and no longer relevant to the animation.

A neat intro thing I made for myself to show everyone who made it. It also fits a bit with the animation ;)

Been really working on my painting style a lot these past few day. Since the new landscape for the animation is going to have a ton of rocks and canyon-esque atmosphere, I've been working on that a ton and it's really been showing. The neat thing is it's helped me improve my overall painting process which is rad. Not sure if I'll be where I want to be in time to flesh out this animation with some real cool backgrounds or not, so I might stick with what I know. I've also story-boarded a little but and am getting to the discovery scene, so that's exciting. It also means I have to experiment with a few effects ;)

Here's some eye candy.

Water looks fantastic.

It's an interesting style on the rock, it's making me rethink my art direction lol. ohwell, perhaps for the summer competition xD.

haven't been making much progress. Overall I'm nearly at 30 seconds, but most of that is intro stuff. I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want to go with more of a painted style for some of the backgrounds or stick with the flash/cartoony style that I'm used to.

here's the difference

"what I have now" (Click to Show)

"painted style, still super rough" (Click to Show)

Regardless, I'll probably paint a lot of smaller, non animated assets during closeups. Still unsure. It kinda depends on time management at this point.

To be honest either of those looks very nice. So go with preference or if time may get tight, the faster method.
I'm interested to see the 3d software being used there. How is that used in the creation process (as the final result looks 2d)?
