View Profile Working Title: Blazing Hot
Setting: Desert

Overview:
A simple 2-to-3-minute-long beginner animation following a stick-figure surviving ridiculous desert conditions
Updates:
1/3: Signed up, brainstormed, chose a song
1/4: Began storyboard, timing
1/7 - 1/10: Continued storyboard
1/12: Finished tentative storyboard, effectively solidifying the story
The animation amounts to a little over 2 minutes.
1/14: Started backgrounds
1/15-1/16: Continued backgrounds
1/22: Continued backgrounds
1/24-2/14: Began animating stickfigures
2/14-2/18: Began secondary animation
2/19-2/21: Credits, effects and touch-ups
2/21: Started adding sounds
3/1: Animation done and saved out!
I thought I would share the steps in my process as I complete this animation, both for myself, as this is the second 1+ minute animation I have ever made, and for those who are interested in learning other animators' approaches to getting a project done.
1. CONCEPT: Think up an idea. Watch other animations for inspiration.
2. STORY: Type out a simple story/script of all the actions. This is a few paragraphs to a page long. Keep file.
3. FEEL/TONE: Choose music and, if needed, amend story to fit with music.
4. Start a project file in flash and add the music.
5. TIMING: Use a layer to mark major events. Type the events outside of the camera view.
6. Work in between big events to mark smaller events.
7. COMPOSITION: Use a folder of layers for a story board/reel of rough drawings. Add drawings and tweens, using the typed events as a guide.
8. APPEAL/SETTING: Design backgrounds/objects.
9. CLARITY/ANIMATION: Make clear character animation to convey the action.
10. APPEAL: Add effects etc. to make it look nice.
Progress (estimates):
Storyline/idea: 100%
Storyboard (beats): 100%
Backgrounds: 100%
Finished Animation: 100%
Sounds: 100%
Credits: 100%

View Profile Looks interesting, 'Ridiculous desert conditions', in a silly comedic sense or in a serious sense? Love the background.

The animation will have a serious/intense feel, or at least that's what I'm going for, but what happens is totally unrealistic. I like the background too. I hope I can make the rest of the animation look as good.
The updates will be slower from now on, and I won't be making any progress for the next week/few days due to returning to college.

Ah that's a shame, It's good to keep a continuous pace so you don't lose sight of where you were when you left off. Good luck with it though! :)

View Profile The animation process is moving very slowly, unfortunately. I've been busy and haven't had much time for this. Still, I'm slowly making progress.
