His arrival was unprecedented.

We thought we'd have another five years to prepare, if not longer. Why was this happening now? It's too early! We aren't ready yet!

They aren't ready yet...

____________________

There is a place, hidden in plain sight within a prestigious University, where gifted students come and learn to become heroes. Whether or not they came through choice... matters very little. The world needs these people for their unique strengths. To have such power thrust upon them against their will, meant that the fate of the weak and helpless would be forced upon them as well. Rejecting this responsibility meant to doom those weaker than them to their deaths. A crime that deserved punishment and the forfeit of their lives.

To those who accepted, we treated them well. These "students" are given a normal life. They're given a livable income, access to the city, passionate teachers to raise and nurture their abilities, and companionship with others who are like them. The only thing we asked in exchange was to keep their abilities a secret to the public.

This academy of heroes exists to forge a team of legends who can do what humanity cannot. To defend the Earth from the threat which festered in the heart of our country:

It was a black, gaping tumor. Almost a kilometer in height and many more miles in diameter, burrowed deep into the Earth's crust. It sits there within the abandoned city it desecrated, gathering power from sources unknown, waiting for the day of its activation. No one knew what it was or what it was doing, or what will happen once its power is unleashed. All that we knew was two things:

One is that at the center of it all, is what used to be Sirius Nightshade's corpse. The villain of untold power who threatened to destroy the world once before, almost twenty years ago.

The second, is that we have only fifteen years from its appearance to prepare, before the tumor unleashes what it has stored within.

But now, seven years since this massive construct appeared, we discovered that it was already too late. The black tumor had awakened, boiling, shedding its festering skin and unleashing black smog that cursed land which it touched. Where this curse spreads, the people living there become corrupted and wrong, joining a hivemind that worked toward an unknown goal. Monsters emerged from massive biological factories, shedding cocoons which were arranged in enormous rows and columns, forming into disciplined armies, coming to life and splitting into Units, immediately attacking the world around it.

The only weakness we could find was that killing a Unit's leader, their Corporal, would result in the immediate death of his entire squad. Killing a Corporal's Lieutenant would cause the death of every Corporal beneath him... and every soldier beneath that Corporal. They were linked in a strange way. It was a massive weakness, for sure, but each creature further up in this chain of command also became much more dangerous--much more difficult to kill. But still, being linked like this gave us an incredible opportunity to attack...

We need to strike at the heart of the tumor and kill the one at the top of the pyramid. With his death, all others beneath him would die as well.

For some inexplicable reason, the tumor's curse that infected humans did not effect anyone gifted with these unexplained incredible powers. Perhaps our students were created by the tumor as well. We don't really know.

All that we know is that we have no more time to wait. We have no choice but to send our most powerful heroes, regardless of discipline and regardless of their consent, deep into the heart of this danger, to penetrate the enormous biological factory in the center and destroy the most powerful monster waiting at its core. I want to have hope that these students have a chance of success, but...

They are not yet prepared for the dangers ahead.

This RP won't be like many Discord RPs, where the flow of conversation is similar to that of a chat room. Posts will be more like that of a written book, with each post telling a small piece of the story.

Heroes in this story are powerful, but they aren't yet finished training. Go ahead and make your characters fairly strong, but leave them with room to grow even further.

If I feel like someone won't be able to contribute well to the RP, I will be unashamed about barring entry. Sorry fams.

Name: Kalte Einfrieren

Physical Appearance:
- Unarmored: An average frame at 5 foot 11 inches (1.8 meters) tall. Roughly 175 lbs (79 kg). Extremely pale skin. Slender, clean-shaven face with light blue eyes. Short spiky blonde hair pointing towards the right.

- Armored: 6 foot 4 inches (1.93 meters) tall. Around 325 pounds (147 kg). Shiny blue plates cover the suit varying in shades. Broad shoulders lead down to a slender waist before curving out into thick thigh plates. Large metal boots with spiked bottoms complete the suit.

The Armor (Click to Show)

Backstory: Kalte comes from an unnamed settlement to the north. He spent most of his youth as a normal child, but near the beginning of his teenage years started to grow ill more and more often. He would often complain about being too hot and would desperately seek to revel in the snow with as little protection from the temperature as possible. His parents soon realized the more time he spent cold, the less often he was sick. The older he grew the more intense his need for cold became. Finally, his powers revealed themselves as he began to accidentally freeze any liquids he attempted to drink. Fearful for his well-being, his parents looked into sending him to the academy. His father became desperate to ensure the survival of his son and scoured the land for assistance. Eventually he returned, bringing Kalte the suit that would be both his salvation and his tomb.

Special Abilities: Kalte can freeze liquids at near instant speeds. The ice he creates reaches -94°F (-70°C) and exhibits strange attributes. The ice flash freezes itself back into a solid almost instantly after receiving damage. It also can have catastrophic effects on the health of anything making consistent contact with it.
The ice doesn't emit cold. Meaning a person would have to be in contact with it to feel the cold of the ice, simply being near it would cause a person to feel no cold.
Kalte himself is highly resistant to the cold, however his ice is so cold that even he can't make contact with it for long without risk of serious injury.

Name: Sidnee Nightshade

Physical Appearance:

Personality 1 (Click to Show)

Personality 2 (Click to Show)

Backstory: A rape child of the malevolent Sirius Nightshade, she was born just after his death shook the world to its core. Her human mother, unwilling to take care of the daughter of such a monster, she tried to give her away, but nobody wanted a child with pitch black eyes and that much baggage. She resorted to keeping her until she was 16, but continuously neglected and abused her until she was able to kick her out. It was around this point that Sidnee began to notice she was blacking out and forgetting certain chunks of her day every once in a while. This is where she got to know her "enhanced state", as she calls it, or her second, much more brutal personality. Responsible for many assaults and murders she unknowingly committed, Sidnee was becoming wanted. Luckily, at that point, Sidnee was able to cover up her lineage with the help of colored contacts and never looking someone in the eye. So long as nobody tried to attack her and unveil her second personality, she was able to keep her name and abilities secret.

However, she wasn't able to conceal herself from everyone. Once Sidnee was old enough and began to gain a bit more of a handle on her powers, the academy sought her out and gave her an offer; learn through them and help the cause, and in exchange she would have food, housing, and the chance to do something good. She reluctantly agreed.

Personality: When Sidnee is in her normal state, she is very reclusive. Anxiety riddles her every movement and thought, and it takes her a long time to open up to people. She generally stays to herself and her own thoughts. When Sidnee's second personality shows itself, She becomes malevolent, cold and calculating. She speaks bluntly and brutally, and only seeks to end the life of the person that caused her to come out.

Special Abilities: Like her father, Sidnee has the ability to transform the shadows around her into semi-solid forms she can then mold to her will. Used for offensive purposes (transforming into stabbing equipment, blunt objects to throw, or exploding at her will) or defensive purposes (shields, barriers, etc.), the shadows are very versatile and of course, very plentiful. In her normal state, however, these shadows are much weaker than Sirius'. Her explosions and blunt objects don't have much force, and her barriers/shields break rather quickly. With her she always carries a sword with a sharp blade for certain methods of combat. On the hilt "Nightshade" is carved in cursive. On top of that, her speed and strength is that of a human. With this in mind, it would seem that Sidnee Nightshade is more of a burden than anything else.

However, when she is faced with something that mentally destroys her (the death of a friend, seeing something extremely disturbing, etc.), or she is greatly wounded, her second personality comes out. This personality's strength and speed are increased by a factor of 10, and her shadows' explosions, force, and cuts make much more of an impact in battle. Her defensive abilities heighten just as extremely, able to take many more attacks for a much longer time. In addition, her sword gets a necrotic effect--cutting any organic material will result in decay, faster depending on how deep the cut is. This personality recedes once the 'threat' is extinguished, and Sidnee's original state is restored, along with a lot of exhaustion.

Note: This character is coming along as a mentor and a helper. Not as someone who aims to have all the glory to themselves, or as a real "participant."

Name: Naomi Fate

Physical Appearance: Naomi Fate is a master of acrobatics--and her slender, lithe figure is built from a lifetime of experience. Standing 5'5" in height, she does not have much in the way of raw physical strength. Instead she relies on her speed and her sword to inflict damage upon her foes.
When Naomi is using her future sight, her eyes glow a subtle bright blue. Not enough to notice if you don't know what you're looking for, but impossible to miss once you learn to spot it.

Image (Click to Show)

Backstory: This girl was one of the first people discovered to have supernatural abilities. Being a member of the very university the Academy of Heroes was built upon, her powers were noticed at once. It was like she could read minds. Like she knew what you were going to say before you even said it. Those who tried to confront her found themselves frustrated and confused, unable to turn the conversation to the topic of her strange abilities. She would leave a room before the doors would lock, and mysteriously vanish whenever the Academy's Headmaster tried to approach her. It was only after a long and aggravating series of failed attempts to force Naomi to reveal her powers that... she eventually gave in. And she confessed to the Headmaster herself that she was not a regular human being.

Now, being a part of the Academy for longer than anyone else, she has become a mentor for others who were trying to come to terms with their strange powers. She regrets ever giving the Academy a hard time trying to find her, because now that she's here she's the happiest she has ever been in her life.

Personality: On the surface, Naomi is shamelessly confident. Assertive, outgoing and feeling like she's in control at all times. She's a perfectionist. This makes her come off as arrogant or cocky quite easily, although she always means best at heart. She's a jokester at times, but also wise beyond her years.
She will do whatever it takes to help her friends, physically and emotionally.

However, this overwhelmingly confident personality comes entirely from her power. Naomi has leaned on it like a crutch since she was a child and without it, she crumbles like a house of cards. She doesn't know how to make decisions without first knowing the outcome. Speaking without knowing what to say, or what the response will be... it's simply terrifying to her. She couldn't even imagine living without the powers she has, and wonders every day how people manage to get by without it.

Special Abilities: Naomi's main power is the ability to see ten seconds into the future. In every instant, she is trying and retrying the scenarios of life in an effort to have the outcome end up perfectly. The nature of her future sight allows her to "live" ten seconds in the future, and if she doesn't like what happens in this short period of time, she goes back and tries it again. Differently this time.
Living in the future and the present at the same time has given Naomi incredible mental fortitude, but she's no computer. She only has ten seconds to wrack her brain. To come up with a way to react to what's about to happen before the moment hits reality. Even Naomi will not always be perfect in stressful situations.

Her second ability is the power to instantly teleport small distances. She can only teleport once before needing to recharge, and she needs to be able to see where she's going or else her blink will be no more than a haphazard guess. Ending up inside a wall or another person would be deadly for her.

Naomi fights with a blade that glows with mysterious power. It allows the weapon to cut through almost anything despite its light weight, but some materials are almost immune to this. Namely, anything that does not conduct electricity such as stone or rubber will be impervious to her blade.

Name: Francene '37' Tremway

Physical Appearance:
Francene stands at 5'5" and weighs around 120 lbs. She has black straight shoulder length hair. Her eyes are brown with a greenish hue to them when in the dark. Normally, she wears nothing more than casual clothes: a shirt, pants, pair of sneakers and a cap. What she doesn't leave without is a black and white bracelet. She doesn't look at all athletic, if anything, she looks like any other normal caucasion teen out there.

Backstory:
Francene never knew her parents. Her history was a redacted black line in the town she was born in. Taken in as a child, the girl would be known as 37, an impersonal name that dehumanized her and the rest of the batch she was in. As part of the line, 37th she was and she came to know why they were taken. Simply due to a blip in the medical records that noted an irregularity in their genes. They had powers: mutants, metahumans.

37 lived most of her childhood under rigorous testing and substandard living. She barely had enough food given to her each day and the life with the rest of the numbers were fleeting. Others died on the table, others tried to escape and died for that. 37 didn't know there was an outside to the world until she found an unattended computer terminal. For the briefest moment, she was able to send a packet.

For the briefest moment, she was able to send her SOS to whatever the outside world was.

And in that moment, she unlocked the door to her freedom. Several days later, the facility was attacked. However, the scientists began to escape and their men began the systematic executions of all the child test subjects. Most had been shot in the head before the rescuers could arrive.

37, 42 and 83 were all that survived the rescue but the latter two died due to complications unforseen. 37 was the last of her batch. Her rescuers, the Institute offered her a new life, a new name and a new home. She accepted absent mindedly. Its been 2 years since, and she's been slowly opening up.

Personality:
Shy, curious and silent. She is an observant girl and prides herself in seeing opportunity when it presents itself. She tries her best to keep friends she has, cherisihing those she lost in them.

Special Abilities:
Technopathy - Within a twenty foot radius, 37 can 'speak' to any device that has a complex enough circuit (we can estimate that computers of the 1980s can be spoken to) can be coerced to do what she wants. In other words, with the right prodding, she can have encrypted doors open, armed bombs to deactivate without the proper passkey and have her alarm silence itself even without pressing the snooze button.

37 is also a prodigy when it comes to robotics, having created nanomites with the use of the lab's tools at her disposal and the creation of a neural link transmitter.

  • Nanomites - On the cellular level, these tiny robots can manipulate her body (and by extension, anyone who hosts them). They can physically affect the regeneration process by speeding it up and/or applying first aid, molecularly rearrange themselves atop the host's skin in order to act like light armor, restructure themselves into weapons attached to the host body in the form of a laser pistol and a plasma blade (one foot in length and three inches in width, not including the handle). They are only limited to the size of the machine they create since only a limited number of them exist within 37's body. If given the chance, Francene could create more with the right materials.
  • Neural Link Transmitter - While he normal range can prove to be an obstacle, she has found a way to bypass it. By having the nanomites bury deep into her spinal column and into her brain, she created a router and booster of sorts for the range of her technopathic abilities. With the NLT, her power range is increased to a hundred feet.

Body Modification - Francene's nanomites have the ability to modify her body to adjust to the enviroment. One such was that they could appear out of the skin to form light armor and the other, for now, is the ability to mimic rods sensitive to dim light in the eye allowing her nightvision similar to cats.

Let's get started on introductions, shall we?

Before we begin, let me just point out that this RP has all the same rules as Errorblender's RP. As well as all the same rules my previous RPs have had. Since we're all professionals here I hopefully won't need to actually point them out or enforce them.

"All students from Class A, please see Mrs. Naomi in the board room immediately. I repeat, all students from Class A to the board room now, please."

Naomi Fate sat at the front of her classroom, fingers steepled as she listened to the announcement over the school intercoms. Her eyes were closed as she watched the phantom images of the future, waiting to see who would be first to walk through the front doors. She was confident that the meeting would go well.

Class A was the Academy's selection of their most accomplished students, and she looked forward to meeting the most powerful, gifted people the Academy had to offer.

It was also created, well... less than two hours ago. Sheepish, she read over her prepared notes once again. Just to make sure everything was perfect.

Two hours ago, they received an alarm that the Tumor had opened up. That the surrounding areas were under attack by vicious and disciplined alien forces. That the world's armies were successfully holding them at bay, but only temporarily. As the Tumor's curse spread, it would slowly force them to fall back unless they wanted to become a slave to those alien powers themselves. Time was of the essence, and this classroom of the Academy's most powerful students were the only ones who could venture into enemy territory.

Simple enough--she would go further when they asked more questions. She recited the briefing in her head again, and then once more.

But first, she remembered, she would make sure to greet each student so that she knew they felt welcome here. The briefing could come afterwards.

Trust and mutual respect would go a long way on the battlefield ahead of them.

She heard the call on the intercom, and immediately got out of her seat. Her short, frail figure rushed to the classroom of Naomi Fate as fast as she could without causing a scene. She had to be there first; Naomi was the only person she truly knew of, and seeing her first wouldn't be quite as anxiety inducing.

When she saw the door to the classroom, she got tunnel vision and went for the door knob as quickly as she could. What she didn't realize, however, was there was somebody else going for that door at the exact same time.

She yelped as she bumped into whoever was next to her. She stumbled, but managed to keep her balance enough to avoid making a complete fool of herself. Sidnee Nightshade looked up with eyes completely devoid of color. "I-I'm so sorry! Are you okay?! I didn't mean to...I was just..." She was at a loss of words and resorted to wringing her hands anxiously. "You can, uh...go first."

Francene hurriedly went towards the classroom, eyes fixated on the floor as she did. For some reason, people wanted her to go to a classroom without telling her much. It was reminiscent of her time in the illegal labs and it made her anxious. She wasn't sure how to take it as of now but she had some confidence in the people who saved and cared for her the past two years. She had to have some faith. She slapped her cheeks with both her hands and exhaled.

She wanted to be early though, she never liked eyes. Eyes that only looked at her expectantly, only looked at what she could do. Like a tool. If she was early she could just stay at the back and be silent and just maybe, they'll leave her alone and...

Francene finally looked up from her walk and was surprised to have bumped into a girl with nearly the same height. "I...Its..It's okay. You go first. I didn't see...look where I was going. Sorry."

The girl stammered and stepped back slowly. "Please, go ahead."

Isaiah looked up from his book, it was another wildlife book that his parents had sent over, it was filled with pictures that they had taken and he remembered some of the trips they were taken in from his recent release. The announcement was asking for his presence, or well his new class' presence. He remembered the talk he had where he agreed to this death mission and how he had avoided telling his parents. They didn't need to know, the book was with a postcard from Asia, so they probably didn't know about what was happening here, and he was grateful as it would worry them sick. At least that was how it was worked in this world as the boy reached behind his ear to press an invisible button that turned off the simulation.

He took off his headset and got out of the metal rig he was lying in. He looked around at his room, it looked exactly like the one he had just left, the trinkets stacked on shelves, but it lacked the warm glow that he had cultivated in that room, that feeling of love and closeness and affection. The books that lined the shelf still with their stiff spines and shiny pages, a fine layer of dust covering them, and nowhere was a picture of his family, as it only existed in the other world. But this was also a new world he was stepping into, a new opportunity to leave the past behind him and take with him only the memories that he wanted, and perhaps someday the baubles will turn into mementos of his trips with his family, instead of the gruesome trophies they were.

The boy got up and opened a small dome, pulling out a handful of mushrooms that he began eating button by button as he headed out. He soon reached the classroom to see two girls standing in front, both too shy and polite to let themselves lose in a courtesy fight. He patted his hands clean and walked up, opening the door and then stepping back, waving forward. "Ladies first." He forced a bright smile.

Someone that was just as tall as her? In an academy of gifted individuals, those gifted individuals usually had a pretty decent height on them, so it was a pleasurable surprise that she wasn't the only short one. Sidnee briefly considered telling her to go ahead once again, but decided that doing so would just cause the awkward tension to remain where she hadn't wanted it in the first place. Before she could say anything, a man walked in between them and opened the door. Another person she was forced to interact with before she was emotionally ready. She gulped, then nodded, "Thank you..." She brushed the black bangs from the front of her face and walked inside.

Once she heard the door close in knowledge that the three of them were inside, Sidnee shuffled toward a seat somewhere in the middle of the classroom. No matter where she was, she would always sit somewhere in the middle; the front was too close to the teacher, where all eyes are on her; but in the back, it was much too noticeable that she wanted to be away from the front and from people. In the middle, nobody seemed to mind. Was she overthinking it? Most likely.

She looked at the woman sitting in the front of the classroom. She had a class or two with her, but never had she spoken directly to her, "H-Hello, Miss Fate," She said quietly.

Theo sighed at the sound of the announcement. They stopped doodling and walked out of the room. They had been drawing an octopus with a top hat and a mustache because they imagined one outside of the window. They weren't good at drawing, like, at all. But it was fun and kept their mind busy. When they entered Naomi Fate's classroom they saw there were already people there. Eyeing them up, they didn't have the energy to interact with any of them just yet, so they sat in the back of the room. Their mind was still on their dapper octopus.

Instead, she turned to Francene and Isalah with a smile. "Hello to you two as well. Please, make yourselves comfortable."

There were so many things she wanted to ask these students, about their powers and about their thoughts. But she would save that for later. Instead, she playfully rapped her hand against Isalah's shoulder and gave him a wink. "Don't even think about giving these girls those crickets. Haha!"

"Crickets?" Isaiah licked some mushroom off his thumb. "What? Oh yea! I have! Wait how?" The boy stared quizzically at the teacher before reaching into his pockets and pulling out a bag of crickets covered in chili pepper. "but they're not that bad, the chili hides the flavor, just gotta pick the wings out of your teeth sometimes." The boy muttered before opening the bag and popping one into his mouth. How did she know? He munched on one. "Would you like one then?" He offered them to her.

Francene blinked at the scene and was about to go to the back when someone had beaten her to it. The shy teenager was surprised when her name was called and she simply nodded when it came to being told to make themselves comfortable. She also made a note that the boy with the odd colored hair was named Isalah and the girl she bumped with was Sidnee. When she heard Isalah was about to offer crickets, she quickened her pace towards the end of the room. Since one part of the back row was taken, 37 went ahead and took another from the back, five seats away from the one who was there first.

Her polite smile stayed intact. "I'll leave the fun of eating exotic foods to you. Watching out for my classmates, including you, is up to me." She turned around, slowly pacing back to her desk and eyeing each new face in turn. There were important things to talk about, but she would wait until everyone had arrived.

"Theo! It's good to see you." She called out to the back of the class, making sure she made eye contact with everyone at least once.
