I had a thread in music about this, but I decided it's more debate like. Who do you believe is the best guitarist? I believe it's Joe Satriani, he puts his soul into his music which is something I don't see very often in so called "great" guitar players. Discuss your views on best guitarist.

I play the guitar.
1) Jimi Hendrix, The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Jimi Hendrix is Defiantly the best I have ever heard. If you seriously think Slash is the second best then you are sadly mistaken. The only reason most people vote for him is because he is on Guitar Hero III. Jimmy Page is a good choice, he rocked out in Led Zeppelin. But for fourth place there’s Tariqh Akoni. He shouldn’t even be in the top 100. Eddie Van Halen as fifth is a great choice for the list. Prince, who would actually vote for him as the sixth greatest guitar player ever? Horrible. Synyster Gates as the seventh? That’s a dumb choice. Buckethead is probably the fastest guitarist out there but not a great option for the top ten. Probably the top 25. Kirk Hammett at eleventh is a great choice. But Angus Young at 12? I love AC/DC but he is probably late 90’s

What the **** did you just say? You listed off who you think are bad choices for second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eitghth, then skipped ahead and started listing the eleventh and twelth.
Your post was one of the most incoherent I've seen in ages.
In a thread about the best guitarists, you start by listing the best, and then you fill in several spots for who you think the worst are. WHAT THE ****?

Thats a strong argument :D :D
And still music isn't a thing to argue about its a thing to enjoy.
Anyway you cant really decide who is the best , its as always a thing of opinion , but in any way I would probably say Erik Mongrain or Justin King. But again its a taste thing , Its because I like guitar tapping alot , and just to earn that little bit of trust that im not just mindlessly debating about stuff I don't really understand , I do play guitar myself.

The flaw with this argument is how many things you can excel at with a guitar, and nobody is very well-rounded in every topic. Tom Morello is excellent at guitar manipulation and experimentation, but he's not amazing technically. Slash is a great shred-guitarist, but he doesn't experiment with different sounds too much. Matthew Bellamy is good at writing music atonally for guitar, but again isn't the best technical player out there.
You can keep going on and on like this, but nobody's going to ever be considered the "best"

The only way this can be a debatable topic is if you make specific criteria about how to determine one's level of greatness. As you have failed to do so, this topic is impossible to debate.

Does no one know about Stevie Ray Vaughan or something?

i think this should be broken down:
speed:
technical:
experimental:
well rounded:
(add more :P)

Or, because, you know, he was part of a little band called Guns n' Roses. Maybe you've heard of em? I hear that they sold quite a few records. But I dunno.
And maybe it's because he really IS a good guitarist.
Nah, thats bullshit. It's only cus he was in a game.

For me is Mark Knopfler.
Born in Glasgow, home of the great music artists. He passes a different live on his guitar, he cares about every single detail of the sound, therefore he uses a different guitar for every type of music he plays.
If you see him acting you'd understand that he improvises everytime and never plays a tune the same way.
And always comes out right.
He has this thing that makes him the best.

He based his post on the rolling stone list of 100 best guitarists. He just kinda forgot to mention it.
I really think this is a stupid debate. As Exilement mentioned, there's just too many aspects it's impossible to decide on just one great guitarist. There's thousands of ways of playing the guitar, how do you decide who is the best of a really good classical guitarist and a really good rock guitarist?
You can't base it on the technique, because the technique is different, you can't base it on "how much soul they put into their music," because there's no way of measuring that. You shouldn't base it on records sold, because that really have nothing at all to do with skill level.
