Way too big, way to unsteady.
Start with some small stuff. Effects tests, running loops. and make them way smaller. Like 100 by 100 small.

Because the bigger the size , the harder for you to manage
Like you said above , you wanted to keep the stick from changing , that's why use a smaller work space .
use the 2 pixel brush for sticks ( the sexiest stick ) ;)

Yea just do some simple tests, the ball test is very popular nowadays....
