So I really want this game, Far Cry 2. But I have doubts about where/how to buy it.

Steam advantages:

  • On Steam I'll have to wait less for the release and I'll get a neat copy of Far Cry 1
  • Cheaper than the Portugal version

  • Multiplayer still enabled
  • I can download it from any part of the world if I feel like playing it, as long as there's Steam installed
  • Instant game content updates
Steam disadvantages:

  • Rumours of Steam disappearing in a few years, with all the games with it
  • A lot of crashes
  • May need internet to access to the game
  • Online buy (So I would have to tell my parents, since I don't own a VISA card)
Stand Alone version advantages:

  • Security
  • As long has I cherish the game it will be forever mine
  • Neat package
  • Doesn't require internet to play singleplayer
  • Multiplayer aswell
  • Money pay
Stand Alone version disadvantages:

  • Limited install count Serial (probably like Crysis)
As you can see, the stand alone version seems more attractive, but I usually go out for family homes a lot and I can't afford asking them to install a 12 gigs game every time I go there. At least on Steam I can delete it fast when I'm going away and don't have Serial usage limits.

What would you choose?

steam =/= EA

you don't need the Internet to play a single player game in steam.

steam games have crashed once or twice for me, but that might be a vista problem.

i doubt steam is disappearing, hell, its still in its beta stage

as long as valve is around, steam should be around too.

steam will probably never come out of beta, which is probably why "beta" isn't mentioned anywhere on the program.

not like it matters, really, i've never had any problems with it, though communities can be slow at times.

go with steam, those rumors are bullshit.
you won't need internet access.
and whats wrong with telling your parents? is it a secret?

Well you need the internet to log in to play the game.

I'm more of a stand alone guy. I'm getting it for the 360 anyway.
