Ok, a question. Since, according to what I understood from your post, we need to use a background. Is it mandatory that it's colored? I can do so, if needed, but, you know...

Well, you could probably do something at some point in the animation in which all the colour is removed, but for at least some of it you'll have to animate with a coloured background.
