You read it right
Episode 3 has a chance of coming out not the end of this year and not even next year, but possibly 2010.

After reading the comments: imagine all the content from the episodes included in the original game.
That would be an awesomely long and fun game.
Oh wait, on topic: Rawwrrrr

Wow. Isn't the whole point in episodic releases to make development times shorter?

Have you forgotten who makes the Half-Life series?Quote from ultramegaWow. Isn't the whole point in episodic releases to make development times shorter?
Valve, the incredibly awesome guys devoted to high quality which means they are devoted to teasing their players and not meeting said release dates. But at least there may be something at the end of the year. Hopefully a teaser.

Yes. Were this not just one episode, it would be taking 6 years instead of 3.

Its actually kind of interesting.
Valve's plan was to release basically a whole new HL2 game in the time span it would take to create a new one, but releasing it in parts.
They actually didn't mean to call it episodic or whatever, as it's obviously not a frequent release after another.
Though honestly, I'd rather they took the 6 years to make a brand new game than only play it in parts every 2 years.

Meh. My first taste of the episodes was The Orange Box, so it felt like Ep. 1 and 2 were a whole game to me, and that is making the wait a bit easier. They had better do something similar to the Orange Box for the console release of Episode 3.
