Not a feature length movie or anything like that, but the game itself is now basically a movie about four people surviving a zombie onslaught.

Sounds stupid to me, but whatever.
Left 4 Dead is now a movie

Next MGS 4?

There's no cutscenes or whatever, its just that now instead of playing some horror-like atmospheric zombie slaughtering multiplayer game, its now a comical cinema-like game, where your starring in a movie.
Lame in my opinion.

Sounds like fun to me, if a bit cheesy (but then again, comic relief is important to prevent "nerve-racking" gameplay, which is something Valve has put a lot of effort into.)
I pre-ordered it last week, can't wait to play it...
Hopefully they'll add more "movies" as expansions later down the line. Although, supposedly the director is smart enough to intelligently place zombies even on custom maps (Titanic, Vegas, or Space Colony; anyone? :o)
The movie is... outside the game world, for lack of a better term. Your characters, as far as they are concerned, are in a real infected outbreak. You make it sound like there are camera men and the infected are just actors in makeup :/

I cannot wait to play the grisly old guy.

I don't see why you're annoyed by this. Nothing's going to change except that "missions" will now be called "movies."

It ruins the atmosphere.
I could stand playing against something called the Director, but now its a little too far.
All loading screens are posters for the movie you're in, the Director is now a literal director, and I won't be able to shake the feeling that I'm more of an actor than a real person in a zombie holocaust.

I can't facepalm hard enough.
It's not a literal director. It's a function in the game that either speeds the action up or slows it down. It was always planned in the game.

Yeah, it's the name of the system created to control everything. It's not an ingame thing, it's the program's actual name.

Frankly, I like the idea, though it may because of the way they're trying to make the game scary the same way a horror movie would.
The idea behind the "Director" system (Which, like has been said, is just the name of the AI controller, much like how Havok controls the physics in some games. It's not going to be some character or entity mentioned in the game) sounds interesting, and it's very original.

It makes me think of the object in Halo 3 Forge that allows you to spawn anywhere in a certain radius, but on a much larger scale and it follows the main characters.

I'm not an idiot guys, seriously.
I know the Director is just the name of the zombie master, but knowing there's something called a Director throwing zombies out at you at specific times and knowing when to give dramatic moments (like a real director... well, a good one anyways) and the fact the campaign is treated like several movies, killed the atmosphere for me.
Obviously playing online with the typical little kid spewing out every racial slur he heard his dad say is going to break the immersion, but now coop and split screen sessions with my friends will be a little less frightening.
It IS an interesting idea I'll admit, but I'd prefer they said this before the game was almost finished.

So, you would rather play the same game over and over again? I still don't think you understand what it is. Also, THE DIRECTOR WAS PLANNED THIS WHOLE TIME.

Well bully for you then.
