Everyone wants mentors these days. I can look over your animations and give advice, but generally it will be the same advice I give in the forums. To be honest, I'm not really good enough to be a full-blown mentor. I wouldn't consider myself higher than med/high beginner. Still, if you want me to I'll do it. Same goes for anyone else.

For that recent animation, you still need to work on the easing. Every movement starts off slow and builds up to full speed. When the guy is flying across he should be losing height as well. I'll post an example in a minute.

Sorry if double post. An example of the physics of a horizontal throw:

Image

Little bit rushed. Just imagine that the ball's made of iron which is why it doesn't bounce much and the stickman's been throwing it around all day so that's made him stiff.

Oh, sorry. I didn't see the post since you edited it.

The motions are about right (although the run needs to extend a little further with the front leg) but they both need easing and the arms are a bit stiff. Also, on the run, his upper body bobs up for a single frame which looks flickery. Changing the level of the head is good, but it needs to be done over several frames. The loop on the walk is a bit off too but that's forgivable.

The stickmans physi's were a bit off, I'd say.

A bit, yes, but after five minutes of playing around with it I couldn't improve it. The back arm's still a little off, but anything else and the reaction principle goes. Oh well.

@rozzer: When you're trying to get the movements right, the best thing to do is to imagine yourself doing those movements and try to animate it as you do it. As a general rule I try not to animate anything that I haven't tried myself unless it becomes necessary.

Also, you need to combine the trajectory with the easing. It's hard to explain, so I'm going to put another animation together that should help.

Physics: If you move, you move every part of your body, not only the upper part of the body, also the legs.

[This is mainly aimed at Rozzer. Will cc Vertex in a minute.]

When something is in the air, it will move horizontally at a constant speed. If you were to look at it from a bird's eye view so that you couldn't see how high it was at any given moment, it would look like this:

Image

At the same time it will be slowing down and eventually falling when seen vertically. If you had the ball thrown towards you (and had no depth perseption, maybe you only have one eye) then you would only be able to see how high it was and it would look like this:

Image

When seen from the traditional view these two effects need to be combined at the same time, like this:

It works with frame delay 6. Just everything else is slower.

@Vertex, I didn't actually notice that on yours, but it might have been.
