I'd probably suggest that you try working with normal figures more until you get better with them. Otherwise, you'll mostly develop the skills to animate that specific stick, but not be able to animate figures with normal anatomy.

I wouldn't get into the habit of using gradients. Leave those to flash people with bad taste.

I feel like gradients are fine for short, movement based tests as a quick alternative to white backgrounds. I do agree that you should take the time to make a real background for longer projects, though.

Use white backgrounds for tests. Gradients are just unneeded effort for something that looks bad.

Sure, using the kinds of gradients you posted does look a little gross, and can look bad when made by unexperienced animators. They can still be appealing if done well, though- look at BYE.

I'm not totally sure whether that's a serious question or not, but I was talking about Terkoiz's animation.

Edit: This one.
I think that using gradients the way they're done here can give off a nice, simplistic feel.

Oh. Terkoiz. The guy with good animation skill. Yeah, compare yourself to him why don't you.

Why the hell is everything so difficult with you?
Where did I ever compare myself to Terkoiz? All I said was that gradients can be fine when made right and used in the right place.
