First thing, you must remember that your friends were probably drunk too.
From self experience, I could say that when you are drunk, you don't usualy care about consequences. And I'd rather cross the street alone that letting my drunk buddies help me go across the street and turn to the right in the middle of it, just for fun.
But it's probably because my friends have a real problem with alcohol, I mean blacking out from 2 beers in one hour? So I end up the one helping them across the street, and away from thug gangs taht they really feel like starting a fight with....unarmed.
