I'm sure most of you gentlemen are in to all of that new-age hip-hop rock and roll made for mainstream radio and whatnot, so if you are and you hate acoustic melodies and/or simple beats, this thread isn't for you... but come on in anyway! New listeners don't hurt the world.
If you enjoy bands like The Decemeberists or even Modest Mouse (these would probably be the most popular to relate), this guy has got to be your best friend... or if you like Irish music.
Now, you probably haven't heard of this dude, but you have probably heard his songs. He's not an incredibly famous individual; but his songs are so motivational and so upbeat that you hear them in a ton of original shows and movies. He's been in a handful of shows that I'm sure we've all seen, such as House, OC, Crossing Jordan, and Shrek the Third, just to name a few. Oh, and he's Irish.
I'm personally one of those people that get an album and like only one or two songs from it, but with this, I'd say I like them all.
He's only released two albums: O (2003) and 9 (2006).
Now, gentlemen, I'd give you some streaming links to some of his more popular songs, and now this thread seems kind of lacking since there's no links, but I can't. When I can, I'll get some links up, though.
If you are more curious about this guy, or want to criticize taste, go search him in Yahoo! Music (or was it AOL?) or Youtube.

Funny, my friend from school just told me about this guy yesterday. He's really good.
I'm in to acoustic stuff. Do you like Elliott Smith?

No.
Elliott Smith is good 'n' all, but I prefer music that has more of an upbeat, motivational tune. Mr. Smith is just kind of neutral.

I love Damien Rice. I bought his first album quite some time ago now and it was all I listened to for a while.
Are you familiar with David Ford? Another incredible acoustic musician.

Yeah, David Ford is a pretty nice artist. I don't listen to him too often, though.
Getting in to bands rather than individual artists, have you heard Neutral Milk Hotel? As a band alltogether, they are pretty good. They're kinda-sorta faster than David Ford but have a similar style of singing. One difference is that it sounds far more folksy (trumpets and other brass instruments). A good example is Oh Comely.
Maybe I should say NMH sounds more like The Decemberists, if you are familiar with them, too.

Damien Rice has been relatively well-known for the past few years. Not someone that you'd hear people talking about at school, but still known enough to perform at the Rock and roll hall of fame induction last year.

Yeah Neutral Milk Hotel is pretty good. In The Aeroplane Over the Sea is a great album.
