I NEVER said he was an under appreciated comic and I NEVER said that he was unliked. Get my words straight.

While this is LITERALLY true, it is not what Ash seems to be getting at. He was saying this:

Quote from Ash
You were saying that you were suprised that someone thought so highly of George Carlin, and I was saying that it wasn't that much of a suprise, since he is so universally praised.

because you said this:

Quote from Dragon⁰⁷⁷
What?!? I never even found Carlin to be anywhere close to that funny or that smart.

in response to the OP. In your initial rebuttal, you did not include the bolded portion of the above quote. Said portion would most definitely be the part that Ash got his conclusion from.

I am NOT surprised that there is a large number of people who think highly of George ****er Carlin. I AM surprised that someone would think he is a ****ING "PROPHET OF LOGIC." You guys are still mis-interpreting me. LEARN TO ****ING READ, AND THEN LEARN TO UNDERSTAND.

No need for shouting. I was just trying to show you why Ash said what he said and what got us confused. That is all.

PROPHET:A person who speaks by divine inspiration or as the interpreter through whom the will of a god is expressed.

No, Bloodfruit:
'In religion, a prophet (or prophetess) is a person who has encountered the supernatural or the divine, often one who serves as an intermediary with humanity.'

So, if you replace the divine being with logic, you get a prophet called george carlin.
Am I right?

LET ME SAY IT AGAIN.

I do not care how many awards George Carlin has won. I do not care how many people like him. My opinion of him is a NEGATIVE ONE. And no matter how many people say otherwise will change that.

Never did I say that I think it is uncommon for people to think highly of George Carlin. You will notice that I said "I never found him to be that funny or that smart." I did NOT say "I never found him to be that popular." There is a huge difference. I know that he is thought highly of by many. I was simply trying to say that I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.

Clearly, you misunderstood me.

I NEVER said he was an under appreciated comic and I NEVER said that he was unliked. Get my words straight.

I think that if we all formed a circle around you and repeatedly yelled "George Carlin was decent human being!," you would be crushed under our massive collective power and become a mule like everyone else. Yes.

Anyway, I think it's stupid applying religious attributes to a man that most of all was a comedian (or to any man for that matter). I agree that he was funny, I agree that he was smart, and I agree with some of the stuff he said. Still, I see no need to place him on a pedestal and view his words as holy. You must realise that he was a comedian above all. He used vast exaggerations for comedic effect, and his main goal was to entertain people. Sure, he was a thinker of sorts, and I believe he had many good points regarding society, but he was no prophet. He encouraged people to think and to question everything they were told, which means that you should also think about and question everything he said as well. If you blindly follow his every word you are no more open minded that anyone else that blindly follow the words of the government, their parents, their teachers, or whatever.

I do not blindly follow his words, I do agree to them however.
And I did long before I knew he even existed (Which was after he became non-existant. That's weird...)

I just thought about everything he said and kinda found similiraties between him and Jesus, Muhamed, etc. Only that he is just a little bit against religion. Just a little bit.

I don't see how he is in any way similar to a prophet. He never claimed to be speaking on behalf of anything, he never performed any sorts of miracles; He only spoke his mind, and that is all. He isn't a prophet just because he said what you regard as the truth to masses of people. He was just another guy saying whatever he wanted to say.

He always said that he got all his information and thoughts by reason and logic.
If you take that as the divine being, as it is quite comparible to 'god', he was speaking on behalf of logic.

And I think Jesus was speaking what was on his mind too, don't you think?

Also, I find it a miracle that he talked like that about religions and got to be 70. Because there are enough loonies out there, killing everyone for not agreeing with their religion.

That doesn't make sense , if thats so, we all are prophets , don't you get your information using reason and logic? We all do.

How is reason and logic comparable to God? Reason and Logic are concepts we humans have created to understand things and fit them together. God is a concept we humans have created (I believe) because we do not understand things and are unable to fit them together. Reason and Logic are means by which to gain understanding and an explanation. God is the explanation in itself. And guys, please don't misinterpret this as a religion bash, because it's not.

If anyone that speaks on behalf of something and has performed a loosely defined idea of what a miracle is is a prophet, then the world is full of them. Lance Armstrong speaks on behalf of some cure cancer fund, and it is a miracle that he was able to win tour de france seven times in a row. Prophet? George W. Bush spoke on behalf of the Republican party, and it was a miracle that he was re-elected for a second period. Prophet?

No, I believe that the requirements for a career as prophet are slightly higher.

So the solution for logig/reason is God.
So they ARE comparible

And Geroge Carlin has more prophetness than others, because after his death (Just lke Jesus) he gained more 'followers'.

Except if you replace the divine being with logic is loses its meaning completely and becomes something else

You cant take that as a divine being, logic =/= divine. Jesus was speaking from the point of both man and a god, so I don't think the two are comparable in the least. You are shooting at random definitions and not linking them with anything but bullshit, you don't give any reason at all for why logic can = god or divinity at all, you just say that it can.

Ummm.... why would that make a difference that hes 70 ? hes been trough all that and has probably more experience than anyone here.

I don't care about his experience. All I can see is an old wrinkly man having graphic sex with another old woman, and I think that is gross.

I don't see where you get that. He was showing that God lives in the gaps inherent in logic and reasoning. This doesn't mean that it is the proper thing to turn to if we don't understand something.

@jeremy: He first got popular back in the 70's, when he was young and fit, and it wasn't quite so disgusting to think of him getting laid.
