Sweeny Todd was BASED ON A MUSICAL, no shit the movie was a musical. If someone made a movie version of Wicked, do you think it wouldn't be a musical? Or how about that god-awful movie Hairspray? It's a musical because it is a movie version of a BROADWAY MUSICAL.

Err... It's not a "live action disney movie". The disney movie is based on the Lewis Carol novel, a really crazy book that it did follow reasonably well, though without sticking to the tone and insanity quite that much. This movie is a new adaptation of the book, not of the disney film.
