So, I'm in year 9 and have to pick my options. I can't decide whether to pick ICT. There are 4 option blocks, and I pick one subject out of each block, except if I pick ICT it takes up 2 blocks, so I'll only be able to do 2 other subjects. Now, I want a job with computers, preferably a network manager. So, we asked a college if you needed ICT GCSE to be able to get an A level in ICT. She said no, but by the time I leave school, she can't say whether that will have changed. However, if I can't study it at college, she said I would be able to find a course of an eventing on A level IT. So, the choices:
a) take ICT and 2 other options, and get a GCSE, then do it at college.
b) Don't take ICT, and get 4 other additional GCSEs, then do it at college if possible, or go to an evening A level ICT course.
also, inb4 "It's your decision". I know it is, I just want to see your views on this. It's a big decision for me.

Well, if you don't know about it no offence but I don't think you'd be able to give advice on it. This is for all you UK folk :) (zawmbee, Deathwish etc).

Well, either way you'll be taking it. If you take it as GCSE, then as you said you'll be losing out on another GCSE you could take. Which you could easily take again.
I say take it as a GCSE. It's important to a job you want, so go for it.

OK I guess I will, the only other 2 subjects would have been religious studies and Geography.
So I'll be doing ICT, history and sociology.
And then I'll do law, psychology, sociology and computing (not ICT - computing is more advanced) at college.

At my school there was the option to take the ICT that took one time slot, then the one that took two, which was newly introduced. If i'm honest, i'd say you dont need the two slot one, as people it wasn't really worth it, and all it's doing is narrowing your choices for the future, should you decide on a different career path.

Where I come from, everyone took ICT, no matter what, in a certain form.
I'm guessing your on about the full course, it's not nessascary for the A Levels but it will help, I took a Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) for one of my choices, and I'm currently do the ICT A Level, there are few people in my class that never took DiDA or the full course, and they're doing just fine.

Yeah, there's only the option for ICT that takes up 2 option blocks. I'll probably take GCSE higher level ICT, then do computing at A level (theres IT - basic, and computing - more technical, programming etc). Then I'll also take classes and learn more in my own time. Then hopefully I can go to uni and study it there.
