Okay so i have to come up with a simultaneous equation and then solve it from a worded problem.

Here is the problem:

A shopkeeper sold his entire stock of shirts and ties in a sale for $10000. The shirts were priced at 3 for $100, and the ties were $20 each. If he had sold only half the shirts and two thirds of the ties he would have received $6000. How many ties and shirts did he sell in the sale?

I let:
s = shirts sold, and
t = ties sold.

This is what I came up with; the first two lines are my equations, the rest is how I tried to solve it. I used matrices.

I know the my answer for t is correct, but s is definitely wrong.

Can anyone help? Post workings and explanation, please, I want to understand what is going on.

I love math, I'll get this done in a minute

First edit:
 A shopkeeper sold his entire stock of shirts and ties in a sale for $10000.
The shirts were priced at 3 for $100, and the ties were $20 each.
If he had sold only half the shirts and two thirds of the ties he would have received $6000.
How many ties and shirts did he sell in the sale?

I'm not so sure that 300 ties is what he sold to get the $6,000, you still have to fit the one-half shirts in there. right?

the question is asking:

a) how many ties were sold
b) how many shirts were sold

OH, I KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG

I have inadvertently written the equation in a way that the cost of ONE shirt is THREE HUNDRED dollars instead of the cost of THREE shirts being ONE HUNDRED dollars.

Instead of

100(3s) + 20t = 10000
((100(3s))/2) + (2(20t))/3) = 6000

it should be

((100(s))/3) + 20t = 10000
(((100(s))/2)*(1/2)) + (2(20t))/3) = 6000

or

(100s/3) + 20t = 10000
(100s/6) + (40t/3) = 6000

after adjusting the matrix, it returns 120 shirts and 300 ties

:O
