View Profile Plasma lamps are interesting devices that create a small plasma field, resembling lightning, inside a ball of rare gases. This is how to build one.
HOW TO DO IT:
- You will need an alternating current generator that produces the frequencies of about 35 kHz.
-
- Next, buy the rare and precious gas called Argon. This rare trace element in our air glows blue when charged.
-
- Make a glass ball with a hole in the bottom to connect the AC generator. Be sure to keep all air out of this ball at all times because oxygen and nitrogen interfere with the blue glow. (you can use a lightbulb for this..)
-
- Buy a small metal pole to use as the electrode. Connect the pole into the glass and seal it. Then connect the electrode to the AC generator.
-
- Make an small hole in the glass and insert the argon. Seal the hole by melting it shut.
-
- Connect the AC generator to an electrical source.
-
- You have a plasma lamp!

View Profile Tips.. and warnings...
This process is somewhat difficult to do without the correct equipment.
-
You will need to know how to blow glass to make this. (if you don't use a lightbulb lol_
-
You will need to be familiar with radio waves and plasmas to make this device.
Warning for the little nublets out there
Electricution can occur if you zap yourself from the AC power source.
-
Radio waves emmited by this device can interfere with other electronics.
-
If you are a noob there is a high possibility of failing *EPIC FAIL!*

View Profile Or just buy one, unless you want your fingers to explode, I mean it's just like 10 bucks.

View Profile Argon gas is rare and precious now? We did this back when i was 11 in general science and i have to agree with Wtf, buy one since it'll cost about the same as all the parts to make your own.

View Profile I know... but what is you wanted a sense of achievement..... you need it to practice electronics... or you just want to get practical *slightly dangerously*
then would you go an buy it
I did it to practice for my GCSE D.T... I'm just showing you how to do it.... "IF YOU WANT TO"
also Argon is not that rare... I just felt like putting it in there like that..
Argon Ar 0.934 %
0.934 % of the average air is argon...

View Profile Not many people are going to try this, but when [or if] the time comes and I feel like trying this/have to do this for whatever reason, I'll refer to this thread.
Thanks in advance c:
