Ok not the best way to start a topic but let's run with it. I agree, home and school should be kept seperate - home for play, school for work. I think children work better at school than at home and it would be more efficient to add an extra couple of hours on to the school day than to make kids take work home with them.

a lot of your life is alread took up by work, why make a lot of the other be full of it too? After all, childhood is supposed to be the time where you can have fun. Even my mom agrees with this.

Do you and LN3uq have the same guy in your avatar?
Incidently we're going to need someone sticking up for teachers in this thread.

Fair enough. Now the positive points of homework:
-It keeps kids off the streets where they'd only cause trouble.
-Teachers are sadistic and their job is stressful - they need some entertainment.

Generalising Kids. Kids that get into trouble generally don't bother about homework anyway
-Teachers are sadistic and their job is stressful - they need some entertainment.
They still have to mark the work and set it
BAM !

no one said anything about not doing it, just whether it should be forced upon.

Banning homework is a ridiculous idea. Sure, homework doesn't help increasing knowledge NEARLY as much as group activities/tutoring, but it will teach you a good lesson in responsibility. For me, I only have trouble with homework, I get straight A's on most tests and essays/projects. Now I could say "omg homework is ineffective, ban it!". But what this really means is that I suck ass at remembering important repetitive tasks and need to change MYSELF, not the system.

Yeah, as if homework is just a whimse of all of the teachers in the world. :Undercover:
As psilo had perfectly put, it teaches you responsibility and how to organise your time. I had always done my homework and still have plenty of free time. And I'm in law school.
Homework isn't there to teach you, but mostly for revision of what have you done in school. Do your homework and you don't have to study much for the exams.
All those who oppose homework need to grow up. Childhood isn't about chocolates and rainbows and shitdicks, it's also a time when the child gets his working habits and knows how to manage his priorities.
