I'm sure there's been threads like this before, but I wanted to make a new one. I'd like to start off by saying I'm pro-choice. I'd also like to add that I think abortion is horrible, and I think most people will agree. However horrible, I believe it should be a viable last resort for women (of course, in an early trimester of the pregnancy) and by taking away a woman's right to make this decision, you are endangering the life of the woman and the baby. (For example, a woman attempts to abort the baby herself in a state where abortion is illegal, and ends up killing herself and the fetus.) Hopefully there will be new arguments other than "what if the baby grew up to be the next einstein?" to which I would reply "what if the baby grew up to be the next hitler?".
So, state your stance on the issue and why, and let's have ourselves a debate.
GO GO GO
Abortion

I am pro-choice, and I agree with George Carlin when he said "Pro-life is anti-woman."
Notice also how many "pro-lifers" support the death penalty.

Well, maybe they want the baby to live so they can execute it as an adult later.

I believe that if a woman wants to kill her embryo, she can have fun knowing she killed the unborn.

you agree with george carlin??? i never would have imagined.
you're a stereotype, you're a cliche haha
abortion should be legally available to women, otherwise they will have to turn to unscrupulous/less-than-sanitary alternatives. the poor would die from botched home abortions, the rich would go to mexico or europe or something and have a doctor do it quietly and return home like nothing happened. making abortion illegal victimizes the poor as much as it does women.

Pro choice, but I have to say that it should be the last resort. But it is completely circumstantial.
Obviously there are many more circumstances but I don't really feel like listing every possibility.
- If there is a stupid teenage girl who goes out and shags a bunch of guys and gets knocked up. I personally think that she should keep it, and if she doesn't want it give it up for adoption. As after carrying something around inside her for 9 months she might have learnt responsibility.
- If there is a woman or a girl doesn't matter who gets raped and impregnated, she should be able to abort as at no stage of the impregnation did she have a choice to have protection, and having the child would be a sign of shame which could damage her psychologically.
- If a woman finds out that she is passing on a serious genetic defect or that she will possibly die if she goes through with the 9 months, she should be able to abort as, why die for a unborn child who may not even survive.

Prochoice for the first trimester, that is plenty enough time to decide.

I don't think it should be completely up to the woman. Case in point; a man was with a woman for over a year. She got pregnant. They split up. She wanted an abortion, he said that he wanted her not to kill his child but if she had the child he would take that child away and she would never have to look after it or see it or do anything with it unless she wanted to.
The courts gave her the abortion. I don't think they should have.

It's her choice in the end; any law that forces you to have a baby was probably made by men.

I agree with their decision. It's her body, and the baby isn't a fully formed human, or even mostly formed, and is unable to feel emotions.

As long it's not born yet I say: Kill it while you still can.

There's a thing called adoption. If it's just some stupid slut that got knocked up then I say FORCE her to do it. If it's a health risk to a rape victim or something though, then I obviously agree that she should have an abortion.

but some children will have bad foster carers, and could be moved from home to home. And if everyone that would have a baby aborted tries to get it adopted, there might not be enough foster carers.

I don't mind the foetus being destroyed. It was the fact that there was a father there that mattered. He was denied the right to have his child. The baby wouldn't have affected the mother at all. She could have had a ceasarian to avoid the damage to her cunt and the operational scars would be the same as they are for an abortion.

I guess some women would get a abortion because of the pain of giving birth.
