The cost of a taxi ride (C) is partly constant (b) and partly varies with the distance travelled (d).

A ride of 22 km costs $42.40 and a ride of 25 km costs $47.80.

Find the cost of a journey of 17 km.

(47.80 - 42.40)/3 = Cost per kilometer

I'm sure you can do the rest.

The cost of a taxi ride (C) is partly constant (b) and partly varies with the distance travelled (d).

C = b + kd

A ride of 22 km costs $42.40 and a ride of 25 km costs $47.80.

42.40 = b + 22k
47.80 = b + 25k

[insert simultaneous equation solving here]

b = 2.80000000000007 (as this is a dollar amount, round to 2.80)
k = 1.8

Find the cost of a journey of 17 km.
C = b + kd
C = 2.80 + (1.8)(17)
C = 33.4

The cost of a journey of 17 km will be $33.40.

22km _________ 42.40$
17km _________ x $

x = 17*42.40/22 $ = 32.76$
