When you divide 100 by 3 on a calculator, it will say 33.3333333. However, If you multiply 33.3333333 times 100, you will get 99.9999999. I calculated that 33.33333334 times 3 equals 100 flat.

Then I go to Google and divide 100 by 3 again. Same results.

I then go to google and divide 100 by 33.3333333 and get 3!!! I then do 100 divided by 33.33333334 and got 3 as well.

What's interesting is that on both the calculador and Google say 33.3333333- Stopping at 7 threes in the decimals place. Why not 8, or 9? In fact 33.33 repeating would be 99.99 repeating. Why didn't it have a bar over the 3 then instead of stopping at 7 threes? Better yet, why not put 7 threes then a 4? That comes out to 100 flat.

Another interesting thing with the calculador is that when I times 33.33333334 by 3 I get 100, then divide it by 3 and it says 33.33333334!!! It's as if I the calculador realizes that i'm right, then corrects it's mistake.

Does anyone here know why it's like this?

That is the only way you can EXACTLY measure 1 third of 100. Seriously, are you like 10 years old? This is basic fractions and decimals. Because decimals are based on 10 they cannot always be exact, and rounding is required. This is not the case for fractions.

Also, the only reason 33.3333333 comes out to 100 when multiplied by 3 is because your calculator is rounding. 33.3333333 multiplied by 3 DOES NOT equal 100. It equals EXACTLY 99.9999999

I'm assuming that after I certain amount of number in the decimal place, it starts rounding. But then why are the number of 3s different?

As he said, YOU WOUDLN'T EXPRESS IT IN DECIMAL FORM.

And if you would, it would look like this (note the bar above the last 3):

33.3

That means repeating decimal. The fraction is exact. The decimal is infinite and can't be rounded without changing the answer.

Because there are INFINITE threes in the decimal place. They have to pick a number to eventually stop at. And there is no set number you have to round to.

We can do this all day. IT NEVER STOPS. So whatever calculator you are using just has a different number for how many digits they choose to display. For some it is 7 digits, others it is 9. This is a fairly simple concept. You are over thinking it.

Alright, I understand the fraction thing now (thanks for explaining it Dudeman), but I don't get why Google doesn't just use the repeating bar. I've seen it been used before by Google, and the number of 3s differ between dividing 10 by 3 and 100 by 3 and so on. But when I get to 3 billion and divide it by 3, it says it equals 333,333,333, NO DECIMAL.
