Oh GOD yes!
After all my waiting, I just saw the trailer for Neil Blonkamp and Peter Jackson's new movie District 9.
In case you don't know about the history of this film, I'll fill you in.
It all starts with Halo. Back in 2005, Peter Jackson went to lots of studios about making a film adaptation of Halo, while it was at the height of it's popularity. 20th Century Fox and Universal decided to band together for the first time in either company's history and make the film. Alex Garland, writer of Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and other great films was tasked with writing a script, but his script was turned down. (You can read it HERE)
They later got D.B. Weiss, but his was turned down as well. Around this time, Peter Jackson took interest in Neil Blonkamp, a man who has directed loads of television commercials, but not because of those commercials. Instead it was because of a short film called Alive in Joburg.
In October of 2006, the studios dropped Halo, claiming that it wouldn't make any money, because of the trend of unsucessful video game adaptations, and because it was going over budget just through prop manufaturing. They also didn't have much trust in Blonkamp, because he had never directed a feature film before.
Since Peter Jackson and Microsoft had already invested so much time and effort (Not to mention money) in making props for the canceled Halo film, they decided to help Bungie promote Halo 3 by creating a series of live action short films, chief among them being Halo: Landfall:

These werewell recieved by fans, but the studios refused to budge untill Neil Blonkamp showed them some promise. So, Jackson and Blonkamp decided to create a feature-length adaptation of Neil's Alive in Joburg, and that became District 9.

Did I ever say it was based on Halo?
Go reread my post, this bit right here:

I liked the 'Alive in Joburg' feature, but I don't think it hypes me has much as the Landfall series.
That was just great.
Although I'm looking forward to this.
Do you know if any kind of Halo based concept is going to be developed? Or are they just stooping with this "Alive in Joburg" movie?

Holy shit, the trailer is here without the blur over the Alien's face, plus there are subtitles showing what the alien is saying.
It turns out that the alien in the trailer is George, the alien that created the www.mnuspreadslies.com blog, and that the aliens landed on Earth by accident, and now are being held against their will.
