They did. Leaf Green and Fire Red. They weren't that great.

Edit: Just re-read the thread. Heart gold? HEART gold? HEART gold? Was this one of those biology classes where I was sleeping or do the Japenese just have a totally different anatomy?

Leaf green and fire red were not remakes of the original games, they were completely different.
