Ash latest thread made me think.
While most religious people and science related people think back and not for the future, I have a question, a dilemma if you will.
Mankind as reached many milestones. One of those, the beginning of the space conquer.
Us, in a rational way, believe that there is something out there, something we call aliens.
Most of us relate aliens to sci-fi and science.
But what if, in a near or far future, a "alien" race actually makes contact with us?
And either inferior or superior, they come to us designating themselves of what humans call God.
That would bring a huge conflict between Religion and Science, automaticly merging them together. Not in a Scientology (religion) way, but in a never experienced way.
How do you think people would react?
How would you react to the exact truth of all the events that changed mankind in a religious and scientific way?
What if Aliens were Gods?

If they came with some revelational proof of something amazing to us, there would be a bigger uproar than the initial "holy shit aliens are here" reaction.
Otherwise, whoop-dee-do.

After all the "aliens are here hype".
Could you live in a world where conflicts between two of the most hated partitions would cease to end to a simple appearance of Science+Religion?

I'd probably react just like seeing someone die on the news, or an internet video.
'Wait, I just saw a God.' And then shrug it off lol. If Gods came, what could I do, you know?

I'm saying that.
Since Science was first approved to be a reliable source of knowledge, there have been many conflicts. Most of them on the Science versus Religion matter.
What I'm asking is; Could you live in a world, where war and good will are mostly controlled by religion, and that religion, in general, ceased to exist together with science?
Like a unified faction of them both.

How would this alien-god arrival make your unified religious-scientific world come into fruition, exactly?

I think some people would obviously be mad and fight or something, that all their life they believed in something false. But overall people would eventually be happy! No more wars fought over religion, since they'd now know the answer and there couldn't be anymore fighting over who's right.

That's it! That's what I mean!
Either both of them ceased to exist or forge together.
What I'm asking is if you could live in a world where your lifetime beliefs had been shatterd by just one single truth.

the question is, can an alien lift a rock?

Yes, yes I could live in such a world. Knowledge changes constantly. If there's proof, that's good enough for me. I'd quickly and easily change my beliefs to match whatever contradictory proof came.

You maybe. Me, sure!
But what about everyone else, don't you think that somekind of conflict would burst?
After all all we want is to fight.

There are a lot of idiots in the world that do not understand the concept of "proof" and would certainly start something up. But that's what would happen in response to any major Earth-wide event.

What would they fight about? It's possible some may just go into complete denial and fight all who accepted that aliens were Gods, I guess. Otherwise I think it'd solve a lot of the world's conflicts, instead of making more.
