This is actually closer to Lewis Carrol's books than the Disney version in terms of tone.

Yeah because, you know, Disney definitely first came up with Alice in Wonderland.

And Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was totally based on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Not the book called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Rahl Dahl, that's completely unrelated.

Not really. This is scary/freaky, Disney was nice and absurd, and Lewis Carrol's books were mainly absurd. Obviously this adaption will be absurd as well, but in my opinion the lighter tone of the Disney version is more true than the creepy and uncomfortable version that Burton seems to be making. After all, it was a story for children, despite the fact that many adults enjoys it.

I've never seen the Disney version but i've read the books, and this is closer to what I've always imagined the books to be than what i've seen of the Disney version.

Of course it is based off of the book, it's just not the same story as the book, but rather ten years later.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson said himself that he wished that his book was seen as a absurd metaphore to the innocence of a child.
Thus the caterpillar (drugs) and the evolution to caterpillar(rehabilitated)
The rabbit (compromise)
The cat (fear - the part where she is lost and doesn't know where to go the cat appears and confuses her even more) at least in the book that's how it works.

I think Tim Burton is going to make a really close adaptation of the book because he possesses the same mentality as Charles Lutwidge (Lewis carol)
