Well, as my computer died, I've been forced to go back to my old laptop. Problem is, the soundcard on this also died a long time ago. After some research on the web, I've found out that installing some new drivers should fix the problem. Trouble is, I can't find out what drivers I need, and I've heard that installing the wrong drivers can violently destroy your computer. I'm not that good with computers, so I'd be really grateful if you could help me find the drivers I need.

So, here's all the everything on my laptop.

CPU:

Name: AMD Athlon XP-M
Code Name: Barton
Package: Socket A (462)
Technology: 0.13 um
Core VID: 1.650 V
Specification: Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M 2600+
Family: 6
Model: A
Stepping: 0
Ext. Family: 7
Ext. Model: A
Instructions: MMX (+), 3DNow! (+), SSE

Mainboard:

Motherboard:
Manufacturer: TimeComputers
Chipset: VIA P4N266/KN266 (VT8372)
Rev.: 00
Southbridge: VIA VT8235
LPCIO: Winbond

BIOS:
Brand: Insyde software
Version: V1.06
Date: 10/06/2003

If you need any other information, just ask.

Thanks.

Died isn't specific enough. If it's a hardware problem then installing new drivers won't help you.

I don't think it's a hardware problem, the sound just stopped working one day and didnt start again.

I didn't drop it or anything.

Hey budday, you have no information there, that would help us identify your sound card.

Yeah, I've tried that and in the sound tab everythings blank but at the bottom it says

Note: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

This is a good point, pull out the keypad and check. I've seen laptops without soundcards and integrated video cards simply to save space and make them smaller.

If that doesnt work try looking the laptop you bought online and check for what soundcard it has?

There just may be incompatibility in the hardware. Clearly it is not giving optimum performance. Is this on a laptop? That makes it more difficult to check the hardware in question in other units.
