So I have this project due in math real soon and I'm having a problem. The problem refers to feet, but when I do the equation in inches and when I do it in feet I get two different answers that do not seem to match up. I think the problem arises from this:

.5ft X .5ft = .25ft

.5ft = 6in

6in X 6in = 36in

36in =/= .25ft

Anyone understand what I am saying, and what I am doing wrong? I need the answer ASAP.

36 inches squared does equal .25 feet squared. You'd have to divide the inches by 144 instead of 12.

Nevermind I found the problem. Becuase the original problem delt with volume, I assumed that:

1ft³ = 12in³

When in reality that is

1 ft³ = 1728.000 cu. in.
