any bands that you think are completley original or have done something new with music in recent years.

a few i can think of:

mr. bungle, peeping tom, and most other mike patton side projects
john zorn/naked city

Mike Patton is a pretty weird guy, I'd probably say the weirdest is Merzbow, which is just insanely difficult to listen to or God is my Co Pilot, this weird queercore/hardcore band with short, crazy little songs.

Good call on Merzbow.

Gorguts deserve a mention as well, Obscura and From Wisdom to Hate are very odd technical death metal albums. Sleepyime Gorilla Musem are really weird too.

Noise music is trash IMO; at least shit like Ulver (new stuff, not old blakk metals stuff) makes some ****ing musical sense.
