Thats right, Radioshack is no longer.
In its place, stands "The Shack"
What is "The Shack?"
Well, in Radi...err, "The Shack's" eyes, in this bad economy, instead of doing the obvious buy lowering prices and encouraging sales or having some blowout sale of sorts, they figure they should do a rename of the store.
...
Um, ok, doesn't change the fact its overpriced crap.

Err... It doesn't seem like they're changing their name, it's just that they're suffering to themselves as "the shack" in shorthand. They just trademarked it.

They doing a full on name change, it just hasn't completely happened yet
I remember the guys on a radio station here were talking about it.

Could you find an article that says this?
Aug 10, 2009 1:29 AM #472763
What the hell will this accomplish?

Took me ten seconds. They are using "the shack" in their ads but keeping "RadioShack" for store signs. Stupid idea if you ask me.

That's a damn stupid idea. Not as bad as The SciFi Channel changing it's name to Syfy.

Wow. Syfy? Really? Whoever came up with that one deserves to be unemployed for a long time.

I agree. It's like they're worried people are going to pronounce it "Skai Fee"
Aug 10, 2009 3:38 AM #472808
It'll be cheap to change the signs. Just take down "radio" and put up "the"

Probably just trying to appeal to the masses. Everyone's trying to become as monosyllabic or bisyllabic as possible since, nowadays, everyone's too lazy to use more than two syllables. Next thing you know, McDonald's will change their name to "The Mick".

You can take the Radio out of The Shack, but you can't keep the overpriced bullshit from being taken out.

i think it's more an attempt to generlize the brand. that's what i see with SyFy for example. if the channel is called scifi, people are going to expect science fiction tv shows and movies. if it's called syfy they can put whatever garbage advertisers will put money up to show. like USA channel. their slogan is "characters welcome" which means that their self-proclaimed specialty or niche is literally any fictional television program. any media that is scripted and has actors or cartoons portraying actors contains "characters."
