i couldnt get it to work. it didnt move the gradient. it just stayed in one place.

Then you might want to check to make sure that the rectangle is a movie clip.

If it's not, take of the motion tween, convert it to an mc (f8), and set the tween back on.

omg thank you. i waqs wondering how do people make clear things and gradients to it for such a long time and that tut answered my question. very nice job. i enjoyed watching it, and i learned alot from it.

i have a question though. in your example you have the rectangle filled with a black color along with the effect. but at the end, i see no black around where it says dudeman. is this an effect thats added by masking or did u change it?

No, it's the same effect.

The gradient should go first color(0% alpha)_ second color(100% alpha)______third color(0%apha).

Try to space it like that^
