Overview of the maker and the game
Lastwinter RPG, another game in Alpha... this time made by Urbanprophet they are also a maker of indie games, there is a game i like especially that i will talk about later.limit
Basically i could just copy the wiki page, and because i do not have a lot of info on this i will do that.
Do you have what it takes to be a coureur des bois (runner of the woods)?
This historical RPG will take you to the grim forests of the 17th century New France.
Alone in the inhospitable forests of the New World, you will soon realize that natural selection is in full effect. You will have to ensure your subsistence in this vast uncharted land while exploring a nature filled with its own treasures, mysteries and dangers.
The game is currently in alpha phase
Some particularities:
Complete freedom of action: with entire control over your destiny, go where you want, when you want, on an impressively large map (3 000 000 km2), filled with sounds and colorful graphics.
Survival is the objective: 60 actions possible - fishing, hunting, crafting tools and weapons, and more than 30 skills, like tracking and woodcraft.
Armed with cold blood, face the dangers of this untamed world that our ancestors explored. Fight the bitter cold of winter, rain, hunger, fever and even sometimes the foolishness of mankind in a world where life tries to anchor itself to a crude and indifferent reality.
A living environment with day/night cycle, rain, wind and snow awaits you.
Realistic wound system. Forget about hit points. Here wounds bleed and infect. Cauterize, wash, disinfect and even sew your wounds depending on their gravity and type.
Trade or barter: exchange your pelts for vital provisions or one of the 300 items in the game.
Travel in a world rich of details with a breathing ecosystem that is detailed and persistent. Populated with animals, people and plants.
Again, i do not have enough upload space for screenshots. but here we go, into more detail...
Classes
There are 8 classes with this certain RPG, each with their own unique set of starting skills.
-Born Again Justice: Lacking colonists to populate the New World, France empties it's prisons and sends these 'volunteers' to New France. Having been in prison, these men are the perfect choice to populate this hostile new land.

-Ex soldier: After a six year tour of duty in New France, the soldier saw himself offered his weapon, a few ecus, and total freedom to choose his death in New France. Already aware of the dangers of the New World, the soldiers make excellent coureurs des bois.

-Given: Given are odd-jobs men with impeccable manners who gave up everything to be used as bodyguards by the Jesuits in hostile lands. Although they were with the black robes, the Given lived much more dangerously than all other men of this time. In 1643 all Given were released by order of the Jesuit general. Needless to say, many of them looked to the forest..
The given are well balanced characters with decent survival skills at start

-Indentured Servant: To pay for their boat-ride to the New World, many young men and women became indentured servants, which means they were low wage workers for a set period of time, usually 3 years. After their 'service', most young men quickly turned to a life of adventure, finding agriculture to be morbidly boring.
Spoiler (Click to Show)
Indian: The American Indian is the ultimate woods survivor; He is strong, fast, and knows the land like no other. His weakness resides in the white man and his diseases, booze, and contempt.
The Indians have very good starting skills but will surfer from his misconception of market values and white man diseases.
Spoiler (Click to Show)
Jesuite: Under the pretext of supplying their missions, the Jesuites send some impetuous missionaries to do some exploration. Struck by contradictions, some will remain, answering the call of the wild. Jesuites were often called Black Robes mostly due to the color of their dress by the natives.
Jesuites are far from the typical image we have of the average priest. Skilled, very well educated for that period, many of them traveled the treacherous new world with motivations ranging from piety to profit.
Spoiler (Click to Show)
Noble Misfit: Misfits are young noble people accused of various libertinage (duels, hooch, and whores) which their parents deal with by sending them to Canada. Well equipped and not without resources, their weakness lies in their inexperience in survival.
Spoiler (Click to Show)
Truchement: We can compare the Translator to the first ambassadors assigned to ambass with the Indian nations. Under the pay of the armies or of the governor, these men lived with the Indians, hunting, spending the winter, raising families, and generally surviving with these folk, all whilst learning their complex languages. After being useful interpreters for a few years, they often return to the forest, it's indelible mark forever engraved by their experiment.

Skills
To incorporate as many survival aspects into the game as possible, the creator has added plenty of skills to increase.
There are a total of 25 skills in Last Winter so far. They reflect the ease (or difficulty) your character has at accomplishing certain actions, such as starting a fire or tracking an animal.
All skills work on a percentage basis. Zero means you have a 0% chance to accomplish this action and you are a total failure at this field. On the other hand, 100% means you are mastering the skill beyond perfection. Note that 100% proficiency in a skill is rare. A score above 100% is also possible, but extremely rare.
Many factors can reduce your skill score, such as hunger, thirst, wounds, diseases and depression. These impact your skills by a percentage, not by whole numbers. E.g: a 10% penalty will not decrease your 50% crafting by 10 points, but by 5.
Your skills will increase proportionally to the frequency of their utilization. Basically, the more you use a skill, the better you will become at it.
It is important to note that, such as in real life, the more skilled you are at a field, the more difficult it will be to improve yourself further.
Some skills are being considered for future versions, such as: Horse riding, Courting and Indian rituals.

Here is a screenshot of the inventory screen
In your inventory screen you have your classic box type inventory, you have your weight, the movement speed reduction from your weight, several misc. actions like, eat, and it has a rough diagram of your character, with a primary and secondary weapon slot

Items
There are around 300 items in Last Winter, all of which are deadly weapons in the hands of your little coureur des bois - yes it is true, you can manage to kill yourself with every single item in the game...
These are some of the misc. items in the game, (warning, long list), some of these are acquired from picking, and some are acquired by hunting, while others are attained from crafting

________________________________________________________
To be honest, this was one of my least favorite games, because of how long it drags on, and it really is a burden to stay alive, you have to read the article to get it right (or i do), and dont try to map out the game with paper, the entire terrain resets itself except for the last place it auto-saved, you will be respawned there with everything in-tact, so. say you quit the game while next to a hut, you would come back to the same panel with the hut.
Although i do not like the game i will give it a fair review, the game is like Mud and Blood 2 because it has the same system and graphics, (i will be reviewing that game later). Overall, i can see this is as a great game, and its only in alpha, like i said with Winter storm, it is a great game for just the alpha stages. I will probably buy it :D.
Like i said, the game has a one time buy fee, you pay for it once and your done, after that, you get all the updates after that for free, and if you buy it before it gets released for real, you get a 6 dollar discount. I am not advertising it, i am just pointing out an opportunity to get it cheaper.
As you can see. the game has a lot more detail then winterstorm.
There is a lot more to discover in this game, i have only just scratched the surface..
Go out and explore my runner of the woods!! Claim the land as your own!
And.... the moment you have been waiting for...
THE RATING!!
I give it a
:thup::thup::thup::thup::thup::thup::thup::thup::thdown::thdown:
Like mud and blood 2, it has a dragged out type of game play, if you get into it, its fun, but if you dont, its boring.
Part of the game is in French, i dont know why, it has something to do with French being easier to code. They slowly translate the French into English as they update the game.
The game itself is a trial, it lasts 2 days, which is about 2-3 hours of play time? maybe more, depends if you sleep or not. (Sleep in the game) After the 2 day trial is up, you have the choice to buy the game and play the full version with the same character you had in the trial, or start a new character and play another 2 days

Its time to make the game section of the forum a huge part of the forum :D
