I knew a thuggee worshiper of the death godess Kali once. Perfectly nice chap until you got him round the caravans...

Quote from soullessreligion can't disappear. Everyone at some point ask why am i here who brought me here, a theory say's that God was made from man so that he can escape the darkness and though he is all alone. the thought of a higher Power looking down at them and on judgment day he will either be in a place with no worry or he will burn for eternity. I don't know how to expected the answer to be but what we fail to realize we are all alike. it's our choices that define us. But what do we know? a bunch of stuff on google and theory's and whatnot. Why don't we just wait in till the end and see what happens. If you die. Ur brain is dead so you can't process thought or dreams or sleep u will shutdown. Or is there a little more? all i can say is people are so desperate to find an answer that some submit themselves to proof. but hey. i think we can wait and find out for ourselves right?
edit: Also it say's Some where i forget. " Don't place a god/something higher then me" but most people put themselves in front of everything before they reach the point where they need help from there God.
19 " 'When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.
20 " 'Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 22 Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 23 Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on, when anyone touches it, he will be unclean till evening.
24 " 'If a man lies with her and her monthly flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days; any bed he lies on will be unclean.
Quote from AshWould the world be better? Depends on the method. If everyone in the world came to a sudden realization that there are no gods, then chaos would ensue. Not because the belief in a god holds people to a moral standard, but because so many people THINK that it does. When a person thinks that the only thing that prevents them from killing, raping, stealing, etc. is no longer there, then they don't stop to think "well, are there any other reasons not to do this stuff?" No, they don't, they just do those things.
If the method was a steady decline of religion as a result of improving people's critical thinking skills, then yes, the world would be a better place. I submit that the vast majority, if not ALL, of the population of suicide bombers consists of people who have faith that they will be rewarded in the afterlife. You can't get from "I don't believe in God" to "I'm going to perform this action". There is no logical link there that could be made.
Not only that, but teaching better critical thinking skills would eliminate all supernatural beliefs. No more ESP, no more Loch Ness Monster, no more ghosts, no more magic furniture rearrangers, etc.
Would the world be better off without religion? Yes.
Quote from Stephen95I'm guessing your athesit thye all say that.
Quote from AshI'm sure that all sounded really smart when you were writing it, but that post wasn't nearly as poignant as you think. All you did is state something that could have been summed up in two sentences, both of which were already known to all of us: "We are all looking for meaning in life. We don't know what happens after we die".
No shit, Sherlock.
What this thread is about is whether the belief in a religion makes the world a better place. Your post didn't advance the topic at all. Try actually addressing the topic in future posts.
Oh, and always proofread your posts. You didn't use any capitalization, and your grammar is horrendous.
EDIT: It says that in the "ten commandments", but not in those words. It says not to put any GOD before Yaweh. It doesn't say not to put anything else before him. But then again, it also says the following:
Quote from soullessyou are right, you did break it into two sentences but, it was addressing the topic, Why do we still follow some of the way's that they used before and yet the topic/discussion on religion and god has never been resolved. There are just forces out there that we just can't comprehend. Why is there a need to know? i think that just makes things more complicated.
EDIT: and The only real thing i will take from your reply is my grammar is indeed horrendous
Quote from AshYes, I am an atheist. If you'd like, we can discuss the matter. I'd be glad for you to try to convince me that a god exists, especially if my eternal soul is at stake.
Quote from Stephen95
This fellow right here St.Padre Pio proves that God exists.
As you can see in the picture he has the wounds of Christ
people who saw him are still alive today this was about 40-50 years ago.
He was able to be in two places at once and levitate. If this guy was around a 1,000 years ago Atheist's would say the Chruch made it up but no Iwittness's are still alive.
