lol i love calvin and hobbes i evan named my first teddy bear hobbes lol (i got it when i wer 1) nice avatar

I got on today with the red blinking light on the top right of my screen. Instinctively I check it expecting someone with at least some knowledge asking me something or telling me something I might find important. No, I get this piece of shit, user name removed though I don't think it matters, which led me to think that it's possible that the technology of this day and age is ****ing us over. Honestly, look at the forums, almost ALL the new members have little to no understanding of the English language. It also annoys me to receive texts with the letters "U" and "R" in place of the words "you" and "are," especially when I know that said person has a ****ing KEYBOARD phone.

What are your thoughts? Is it possible that technology is causing people to become lazy with their grammar, among other things.

I'm not quite sure. I attribute my own writing ability to the gratuitous amount of time I have spent on the internet. I doubt my writing skill would be very good if it weren't for technology, because I would have never gotten the practice.

I suspect grammar has always been poor amongst the majority but it's the increase in technology and written/typed communication that has made us notice.

True that, and same here. The experience with it on forums helps out.

Also, I pretty much learned English on SPP.

I was best in my English class on my old high school because of SPP. Maybe some people don't use it right.

People think that the internet is just a big ****ing chatroom for their Us and Rs and TTYLs to mate and spawn ROFLs. It's not like they don't know grammar or don't know how to write, they're just rude enough to not bother about it.

At least your posts make sense. Some people don't bother adding 'the' or 'an' or important verbs in their sentences making it impossible to decode what they're saying.

i dont try to focus on grammar or spelling; but i really do try to make what i write at least legible which alot of people seem to fail to do, im not sure if thats a lack of intelligence, experience writing or failure to have a spellchecker go through their writings for them

well that's like first hand communication with english speakers, which your classmates probably weren't lucky enough to have.

Yes, because of technology. I'm lucky enough to be on SPP, as weird as this might sound. I wouldn't know half of the music I listen to aswell.

I think the correlation is nonsense in the OP. It's not technology; rather, it's just laziness on the part of the writer.

What this guy said. Guys, most people on the internet are somewhere from 9(sadly)-21 years old. And most people who type like how you say, are usually teenagers. Usually. They're still in school, so do you think they write "U" and "R" in replacement of words? No, it's just someone not wanting to type correctly. It's not education, it's laziness.
