Because I can NEVER react to getting a gift the right way.

I have 2 options:

1. Act really ****ing excited and hug the giver and shit and act like it's a godsend from Jesus himself.

2. Say thanks, act half-interested and move onto the next box. I usually use this one with things like socks.

I either look like an unthankful prick who doesn't appreciate anything or I look like some freak who is super excited over some socks and underwear. The worst part is most of you have some months time between your birthday and Christmas so after either you can say "Phew ok, I don't have to go through that for awhile" but my birthday is November so right after my birthday I have to do the same routine in another month.

So I'm just gonna tell EVERYONE who is thinking about giving me gifts to not even bother and just give me money. Nothing but cold hard cash. So when I get it I can thank them, hug them or whatever and then move on.

And go buy whatever I want. :D

I know. It's really awkward, everyone's watching you. You're afraid that if you don't act as excited as someone growing their legs back, that you might seem like an asshole. I worry about it all the time. Just hug them, say thanks, and move on.

Hey, my birthday's in December. I get what I want on my birthday and nothing else I want for Christmas. I just ask for money and end up getting gift cards for places I don't go to. Now I feel ungrateful.

Whoa you guys actually do the same stereotypical stuff families do on TV? Like with a christmas tree in the background, a warm chinmey fireplace, decorations everywhere, christmas carols playing, and everyone's sitting on the floor all happy and smiling at you as you open another gift and find it's another purple sweater?

Our family doesn't do any of that, and neither do most of the people I know. I live in Australia, so it's kind of different here I guess. Or maybe it's just me and the people I know. Maybe everyone else in the world performs the same chrismassy ritual I dunno.

That explains it.

Cool, you're complaining about receiving gifts. Can't say I'm surprised.

I forget, isn't Christmas for Australians in the summer or something?

I've said this a few times in threads similar to this, but my birthday is on Christmas Eve and don't get presents at all. I used to get pokemon cards, but no more.
