Just came by again to quote for truth.

but I'll elaborate on that list.

Eyedea & Abilities, Sage Francis, Adeem, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Mac Lethal, Murs, Aviation, Necro, Cunning Lynguists, Apathy, Celph Titled, 7L & Esoteric, Souls Of Mischeif, and Saigon.

Yes. Especially Sage Francis, Cunning Linguists, Apathy, and Aesop Rock.

Also: The Weathermen, Madvillian, Louis Logic, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique (he's kind of "iffy", though. Some get tired of his ongoing paranoid conspiracy-nut attitude. Miniman will obviously like him, though), Tonedeff, KRS-one, R.A. The Rugged Man (first heard him as featured on the song "Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story" by Jedi Mind Tricks), Chief Kamachi, Planetery (from Outerspace), Virtuoso, Pete Philly, Jus Allah, Sean Price.

Just wanted to top that list.

Yeah. The only reason I didn't add Del to the list, though was because I included Hieroglyphics.

Heh, now I have a list to look at if I ever want to check out new hip-ho artists. I only listen to Del (and a little Hieroglyphics), Atmosphere and Talib Kweli.

Ogrilla, I think you're right. I've read that rap (the word) has existed since the fifteenth century, but sort of merged with the hip-hop culture in the eighties.

I dont feel like listing anymore. Necro can be hit or miss, but on the most part he's great, if not disturbing.

Oh, and I dont give a **** about anyone's opinion about hip-hop, it's the only music I can listen to for every mood.

I have a soft spot for acrobatical lyricism.

It's funny how everyone who listens to good hip hop likes the same artists.

I have nothing to add because they've been said.

Rap can be fun to listen to, but everything that people call rap now is hip-hop and all of it is shitty. Rap from the mid to late 80's and early 90's was the best. Not all of it, of course, but that was the golden age, I'd say. There are a lot of good rappers still today who don't have to use expletives or talk about bitches and violence, but they're underground and no one likes them except for me, apparently.

You mean Hip-POP. Hip hop is a genre, rap is a style of delivering lyrics.

Unless I can call "sing" a genre.

There are a ton of good artists these days, and a small amount of rappers which are only mainstream/made a few mainstream hits are okay.

But I guess I can't blame people for only listening to Hip Hop on television.

If it matters, I listen to a ton of other genres as well.

I already explained it and you kind of got it wrong, anyway. You left out that it's generally used as a nickname for the genre due to the the genre being famous for the style.

Oh and, alive and Ogrilla, "rap" did exist since the 16th century, but not in the form you may be thinking of. It was more used as a term to describe the act of conversing (that definition is still used today) or just talking fast. It wasn't applied musically or rhythmically at that point.
