Unless someone is going to play devils advocate, i don't think theres going to be much of a debate here.
Even though in my twilight poll, Automaton, Bongoe, ChazzyPark, Devour, Medic!!, Überschall said that they like twilight, but for all I know they're lying.
though 35 others didn't.

I'll pose the view that they're not really hurting anyone and it's not hard to tell people you don't care if they try to talk to you about it.

i think the main problem about twilight for me is that everyone else likes it and is all like 'UMG ROBOT PATTERN' or w/e and it just puts me off watching it completly

I accidentally just watched the first movie, BUT

It was actually alright, although the lack of a decent plot and villain (for all but the last quarter really) was annoying. I can see why so many people like it, and I can see why so many people hate it as well. But in the end, it's pleasing its many fans, and it gives all the macho men on the internet something to be smugly resentful of.

I thought the book was OK, that's why I voted "yes" on the poll. I think it's not greatly written, but neither are a lot of books. They kept me hooked at some points, and I genuinely wanted to finish the series and so I did. That said, I do that with a lot of books, and twilight was nothing specail. The films ruined it and were shockingly bad. The reason I hate twilight now is because of all the Twifags who go over the top. It's one thing to say you thought a film/book was good, but it's another to make a religion of it (literally).

People are stupid enough to make a religeon out of a book? (other than any holy book, but I'm skeptical of those too)(other than scientology)

well, I guess I undermines my own point.

but my major issue(s):

It's a romance, alright, not my thing, but I can accept that.

vampires that are not vampires and glitter in the sunlight, and werewolves that are just shapeshifters? No thanks.
(no, I haven't actually read it. I got enough to know the general plot from my sister not shuttingtfu about it)

mass market and media circus? Most things like that haven't been that good, that I've noticed. It's almost like lemmings-one does one thing, no matter how stupid, and the rest follow.

and take lemmings as you will. I mean the game, but the animal probably works too.

In a serious debate, you can't say Twilight is the worst book ever written. That's stupidity, especially with it's popularity right now. Personally, I have never read it, never seen the movie and never will. Pretty much it's for Females (As far as I know, mostly females are the only people watching/reading it, maybe I'm wrong). It's clearly not the worst book ever written, or the worst movie ever made.

The only reason I hate twilight is because of its fanbase. I mean, I've seen sports fans get paint themselves in their teams' colors, and then there's the comicbook conventions with all the cosplay and whatnot, but only twilight has fans of the series cutting themselves and telling one of the actors from the movies to suck their blood. I just don't understand why such a mediocre story has such a cult following. Shit, everyone calls Stephenie Meyer an idiot, but she must know something we don't to be able to make so much money off of bullshit. Kind of like Soulja Boy.

So just because a lot of books aren't greatly written, it makes it okay for twilight to be pure shit and still be extremely popular?

People that say that really annoy me. Why should writers stick to what the classical writers imagined these creatures to be? We need some originality (not that the book is original at all, however I would say the creatures in it are to a certain extent).

Your opinion is it's pure shit. Mine is it's not. I simply said it's nothing special and not greatly written, not it's badly written. The writing is fine, nothing spectacular.

For people who havent read the books it would seem very shitty, I understand. However, as one who's read the book I can understand why so many people get hooked on it. There's something about it. It's a bit like the darren shan books. Darren shan is no great writer however I still want to buy his new releases.

Because, they are VAMPIRES
they have ****ing rules on what they are
you can't just say they are vampires and change EVERY
****ING
THING
ABOUT THEM
other then ****ing having to drink blood, thats all that makes him a vampire in this book
he never sleeps, vampires need to sleep, thats why they rise from coffins and shit, yo
he never drinks human blood, yet is still as strong as vampires that do
sunlight doesn't kill him
stakes can't kill him
garlic has no effect
all these vampires have special mind powers for some ****ing reason

its ****ing retarded. she might as well call them something else, because they aren't ****ing vampires.

also a warewolf wants to **** a baby
not cool yo, not cool. thats some crazy mormon shit right there, am i right?

oh
also you're a fag for liking this shitty woman's dream fanfic
cause you know its a ****ing fanfic

If I remember correctly, bella was the one who coined the turn "vampire" and Edward said something like "yeah, something like that". Though I can't remember.

As much as I've laughed at this too, I have to say not once does it mention ****ing a baby. He imprints on it, which means he feels attatched to it (not sexually), and will marry her once she's of age.

Opinions represented as fact in the debate section, well I never...

and after 4 books he never thought of correcting her? let alone everyone else calling them vampires. and themselfs doing so too, to the.. uh, 'evil' vampires.

so he sees this baby
and then says I WILL MARRY THIS BABY ONCE SHE IS OF AGE
so once she is of age, this unsexual lust for this baby suddenly turns sexual?

also, i've seen the first movie with the help of rifftrax, and plan on seeing the 2nd one if they do it too.
