I'm new to SPP and I'm doing a survey on a couple of things.
Let me explain, I'm trying to find an alternative animating program to Flash, and to do that, I'm not going to go blindly searching on the net without some people's opinions right?

SO, I want to ask you guys, FIRST What kind of problems do you have with flash, whether it be the drawing part or the actual animating anything thing you can think of that involves you using the program that you find hard or limited! Then, what do you think of the SPP teams tutorials? I'm not saying their bad or anything ok, it is PURELY a neutral question, I just want to know what the people feel

Next, if you were someone who couldn't afford flash what alternative program would you suggest! Finally a few interesting points about that program or a link the site! I know Pivot is a well known one, but anything cross platform, anything with cool features, I don't mind what you guys say just say SOMETHING I'm open to any and all answers! thanks! And yes I know Pivot and Easytoon are also used but ANYTHING ELSE PLEASE TELL ME :) Also I forgot to mention
please tell me whether the programs u recommend are FREEEEE :) because my objective is to find the best, and cheapest alternative to flash :)

Also, If it would be possible, I would like to Interview Admin CrazyJay about his experiences with Flash, i.e. how he started, how did he improve, etc etc and since I know and played a couple of his games, I know he's a good animator so it would be nice to get an interview with him :D

If i have broken any of the forum rules i apologize, I just read them and i don't think i broke any... anyways Looking forward to your answers! (Please actually answer)

And YES This is my homework, and it will be for a LONG time, so please take your time replying, but not too long please ^^

Well, usually whenever I run into a problem it is because I am not skillful or patient enough - Flash itself never really lets me down, and if I try hard enough I can usually get the effect I was looking for.

It may be hard for beginners, but once you get used to it it's fine.

Then, what do you think of the SPP teams tutorials? I'm not saying their bad or anything ok, it is PURELY a neutral question, I just want to know what the people feel

They always answer the technical questions, and everything else is opinionated. So yeah, they are good.

There are plenty, but apart from the well known trio among the stick animation circles, I'm not really sure.

Good luck. Crazy Jay posts a few times a year, and never to chat. So I don't think you'll be able to contact him unless you do it directly through his official email.

If I can't get the effect that I want, it's because I can't do it rather than because Flash is letting me down

Yep.

I use Flash theres no problems I can think of you just need practice.

LeoZXC about alternatives to flash theres easytoon, pivot, and stykz.
(There is a way to get Flash for free but I'm not saying you should)

haha thanks! ok, so practice makes perfect that makes sense :)
ok thanks! could u rank flash pivot and easytoon in order of best ascending, like i think pivot is the best, then flash then easytoon so 1. Pivot, 2. Flash, 3. Easytoon and then tell me whyy :D
if you could do that it would be fantastic :)

1. flash- best choice. can do anything.
2. easytoon- second best choice. much like a free version of flash. only downside is it is in black and white.
3.pivot- worst. too stiff, and is only able to use vectors.

Alright thanks!
So if you are good at flash this would easily be the best choice thats easy to see
but when I was talking to some people, they said that Pivot is a easy way to start off, and that once you had enough practice with it Easytoon or Flash was the next step. So is Pivot the best choice for beginners or do you still think that easytoons is better? thanks!!!

Hey buddy. So if you are wondering what program is best stickfigure animation, and soley stickfigure animation, I would say pivot, although many people would beg to differ, this is just my opinion. When it comes to more dynamic stick figure animation, where you want that rough squashy strechy tailor made look, flash is the way to go, this is especcially the case with effects and what not.

As for problems I have experienced in Flash, I would say not many. One of the only things that I find annoying is the lack of various brush sizes, this can be very annoying when it comes to different zooms ect. Once again, this reinforces what I said before, Pivot is actually made for animating stickmen, while flash is more for commercial portfolios and presentations, although we found a way to create stickmen by utilizing tools such as brush and line.

Also, for freehand try "Pencil" google it. And for 3D if you are looking for a free program google "Blender"

Good luck mate.

PS: Heres an example of what I meant before:

Pivot: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/9374/ultragunshot.gif (you can make smoother animations easier, although lacks style and originality)

Flash: http://www.truploader.com/view/864039 (more dynamic rough ect.)

Wow you have NO idea how helpful that was.
I just looked at your animations and they are astounding. They are INCREDIBLY smooth. If possible I would like to interview you or ask you a couple of questions later ^^

Because although i have animated using pivot, i have no idea how to do blood effects so well, or even make it seem like there's a proper impact, one that can be felt and I have no idea how to make it sooo smooth. So thanks for your answer! Hope you can help me even more later in future!!!

Tell your friends about this thread! remember all answers are welcome except when you diss me because thats not nice ><
thanks!!!
