Presumably you know to go to file -> create figure type.

Then you have to use little lines to make curves and use the lock joint (or fix joint or something like that) button to get rid of the dots you don't want. Zero thickness lines can join things together without it being obvious that they are joined. Beyond that all you need is creativity and practice.
