debate about what is better.

I am conservative, every man for himself. Sure it's ok to help someone who is struggling get out of their situation, but that doesn't mean put their ass on a golden platter and hand them everything in the world. I beleive if you have to let kids or people fall on their ass a few times, otherwise when it happens in the future they will panic. You can't be the most giving person in the world otherwise there eventually wouldn't be anything left for you, and then you'd be getting the same help you gave, and end up giving back to someone else once ypur life was perfect again. I also think that just handing something like (f*cking hillary clinton) free healthcare to people is wrong because they're gonna be fine, they work their asses off, better than some americans. I would rather be able to say "I DID IT MYSELF" than "oh thanks hillary, cool" or whatever they may say

Well, I'm libertarian if anything.

In other words I think the government needs to fuck off on both fronts.

This really doesn't pertain to anything. You can't debate whether people should be liberal or conservative in general because it's a person's opinion.

Give us an event or topic or something.

And anyway, I have a feeling you're talking about poverty. That theory is nice and dandy, except for one thing. Once you fall into poverty, you will probably won't escape it without a lot of help. Sure, YOU might. You have an education and will probably go through college. But Jon here is a working poor person who won't be able to get through highschool. He will forever make it on slightly above minimum wage and will never own property. Even with welfare, it is highly unlikely that he will make it out. His offspring will probably not recieve a highschool education because he needs the extra money. Cycle continues.

As much as I love bluntness I think this thread might actually have a chance of going somewhere if we had a more specific topic.

I would very much fancy a political debate, as opposed to the usual religion based ones. I would also very much love it if Smashdood would take part in such a thread, as he seems to share the same interest in debating all things politicalness.

ok how about this... A student gets into a deep hole of shit... such as grades and drugs and all that other crap. should we let him fall on his ass and find his own way out with advice and some help or should we just do everything for him and get him completely out without having him break a sweat.

You make it sound like he wants to have everything done for him. Government programs are usually about trying to help him get back on his feet if he admits that he needs help and wants to change his course. Such programs aren't really helping the little spoiled kids who have extra cash for drugs, either. They're usually trying to help the economically challenged kids get a decent education (on par with the rest of the kids).

I have nothing wrong with a mistake-punishment-learn his own lesson deal. However, drugs and poverty aren't something you usually recover from unless you've got a lot of extra cash.

Libertarian for the most part, but a little liberal in areas that I feel are important enough for a government to have to step in.

So, OP, make something for us to debate about.
