Despite that, I very much suspect the quotes are taken out of context and misrepresented. Things like the "trick" which hid the decline may well just refer to a clever way of doing things (like using that trick with integration to find the volume of a 3D curve rather than counting the molecules) which found that the decline was less than it first appeared. Plus, if I remember rightly, I think this was all done by the Russians, who would have just as much vested interest in discouraging the existence of global warming as anyone else would in proving it.
