Alright, first off let me start off by saying that I don't mean to incite a religious flame war or debate or whatever in this thread. Having said that, as many of you may know (or not know, since I'm not as obvious about as some people on this site) I am an atheist.

Anyways, disclaimers aside, I intend, over the next several months to do something that 95% of the world, and 98% of Christians have not done; to read the bible from cover to cover.

I intend to read through it and mark places that contribute to existing catholic ideals such as :

Homophobia
Sex before Marriage
Masturbation

As well as things they don't like to admit, such as :

Racism
General Sexism

I think it will be an interesting challenge, as well as a useful tool for pretty much any religious debate ever (not that I intend in inciting those, I'm more interested in finding out first hand the basis for notable religious biases as well as the existence of equally valid ones in the bible that they ignore)

So, why am I posting this thread?

Well, I don't know about all christian morals or points of contention about the christian religion (surprising, I know) I'd like you guys to point out anything else you'd like me to look out for in my reading.

I can pretty much already tell you that you wont find anything concerning masturbation, besides Jesus first sermon ever, where he says that anyone who even looks at a woman with lust is committing adultery. Besides that you are really standing on straws.

Here is a funner way to study the bible, go through the first testament trying to find Jesus before he was born in the new testament. (Hint: Anytime it says "the angel of the lord" that's jesus.)

Or, you could try and find references to the second coming of Jesus Christ before he even first arrives. (Hint: Its in genesis 3)

If you really want to take racism out of context, go to collossians in the new testament, that's where Paul talks about slaves needing to be good slaves in order to do right.

Well I've already found plenty on sexism in genesis and whatever is after that, so I think I'm on a good track :)

Some people argue that it meant 7 pairs. Others say it was just 7 of each clean animal and 2 of each dirty one. It's ambiguous. Either way, there is more animal in the ark than there is dimensions described, and Noah and his family, assuming they don't sleep and only feed each animal once a day, have to feed 14 animals per second each.

How do you know moses outlived adam?

Genesis 2:7 - The time came when the lord god formed a mans body from the dust and ground and breathed life into it the breath of life. And man became a living person

Now, we have to assume this is when Adam was born, in essence year one for Adam, he is one years old. After this the bible says god created the garden, It never says how long he waited after adams birth to PLANT the garden, never says he just bamfed it there into existence, again, don't know how long it took the garden to grow. After it grew he put adam there to tend to the garden (imagine doing that, the plants never die, they just get bigger, after the fall, all life started degenerating, so before it, how do you think that worked? What kind of work was that?) Then after this, an unspecified ammount of time passed by before he said man was lonely, and created eve.

So really we dont know how long adam was even alive for.

BUT, if life was always regenerating before the fall, then wouldnt he only start aging after the fall? Which would mean he would only start counting his years after the fall. So all that above still applies!

So the bible goes into this part where it's talking about adam's sons and his sons sons and all that stuff after Cain kills Abel and it's like a page long and it says "Adam lived this long then fathered Cain and Abel" "Then Adam lived this long and fathered sons and daughters" "The total years Adam lived is 930"

And it does the exact same thing for Noah ending with "The total years Noah lived is 950"

Genesis 5:5 "and all the days that adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died."

Noah is at Genesis 9:29 "And all the days of noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died."

Oh I know, I read that. Im arguing that technically, he didnt start aging until after the fall, and we dont know how long he and eve lived in the garden before the fall, so he would be 1,000,930 for all we know, and all moses knew.
